Job description

Full Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join Marsh’s Captive Operations Group. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of captive insurance companies and oversee their day‐to‐day operations, including financial reporting, treasury, insurance administration, and corporate/regulatory compliance. You will deliver high‐quality service to clients, support audit and regulatory processes, and contribute to continuous improvement of our procedures.

Preference will be given to those candidates based in Nova Scotia. If you are located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, this will be a hybrid role requiring at least three days per week in the office.

We will count on you to:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and any client‐required supplemental schedules.
  • Reconcile cash and investment accounts and execute payments as required.
  • Prepare and file regulatory and tax filings on a quarterly and/or annual basis as required.
  • Coordinate client audits end‐to‐end, including planning, scheduling, testing coordination, and issuance of final deliverables often managing multiple audits concurrently.
  • Plan and organize client meetings, including Shareholders’ Meetings and Annual General Meetings; prepare materials, participate and present, as appropriate, based on client needs.
  • Provide proactive, responsive support for clients’ day‐to‐day requests and operational needs.
  • Maintain client files and correspondence to established standards and best practices to help identify risks and opportunities.
  • Build and sustain strong client relationships, promptly identifying and resolving issues.
  • Liaise with external service providers and other stakeholders on behalf of clients.
  • Coach, mentor, and support junior team members and new colleagues.
  • Adhere to Marsh internal controls and client‐specific control requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standardized procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of insurance, insurance policies and insurance accounting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to have:

  • Qualified CPA, or a minimum of five years’ equivalent experience focused on preparing financial statements and maintaining supporting working papers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast‐paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively and confidently with stakeholders at all levels, both in person and virtually.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

What makes you stand out:

  • Relevant experience in the captive insurance industry.
  • 3+ years’ experience working with or within an insurance company.
  • Familiarity with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as they relate to insurance entities.
  • Familiarity with US regulatory requirements for insurance companies.
