Job Purpose

The Manager, Engagement Center supports and navigates youth and young adults services and programs for Lydia House (LH). The role ensures planning and execution of the services and activities, partnerships and collaborations supporting the kamali‘i for the Engagement Center at LH, and provides all supports necessary for successful achievement of goals for youth. This position will support outreach, low-barrier access to services, and a safe place to and for youth and young adults in the Engagement Center. The Manager will oversee and provide a caring adult presence, navigation, program delivery and coordination, and coaching for the youth. The Manager is responsible for researching and incorporating culturally-centered interventions according to the Pua Lili‘u framework and matching it to the needs of the youth and young adults. This role utilizes knowledge of youth best practices, community outreach and collaboration, and constant opportunities to acquire and utilize feedback from youth and to constantly enhance and improve services to meet youth needs. In addition, guides and supports the performance and development of Engagement Center Shift Leader and Youth Engagement Specialists.

Essential Responsibilities

Engagement Center

• Promotes a safe physical and emotional environment for participants and staff, with low-barrier access for all youth and young adults (YYA) qualified to enter the center.
• Ensures Engagement Center is adequately staffed (to include projected attendance and potential events).
• Recruits and onboards new teammates ensuring efficient transition into daily operations.
• Supports and develops services and activities which meet youth basic needs and stabilize their lives, in a youth-centered approach.
• Collaborates with and supports learning for Lydia House teammates and external partners, to support youth via best practices and approaches tailored to the needs of the youth.
• Promotes an environment where youth may feel safe to self-direct their activities, readiness and degree of support for stability, sense of belonging, and future orientation.
• Performs community outreach, analyzes environment surrounding community, and gathers feedback from partners, youth, and other community members to incorporate into the design of services provided.
• Supports team in collecting and reporting on participant data and collaborates with other teams (Kipuka and Research and Evaluation) to further utilize this information in the understanding of demographics needs and services to inform impactful, transformative models.
• Works with Operations Manager to ensure facilities are ready for engagement each day.
• Debriefs with team at end of drop-in hours. Stays aware and on top of any potential risks, or situations that may arise. Oversees safety protocols, ensuring they’re implemented when needed (e.g. phone tree, guidelines and procedures, etc.).
• Reports and works collaborative to the Lydia House Executive Director and the Leadership Team to support all activities within Engagement Center.
• Serves on the statewide hui to support the development of engagement centers within Liliuokalani Trust spaces. 

Other duties:

• Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, human/social services, or another relevant field. Or have at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• At least 2 years experience in planning, implementing, directing youth programs. Knowledge of best youth practices (positive youth development and others) and the ability to selfcare and work with the most vulnerable population.
• Requires 3 to 5 years of experience managing and developing teammates. Experience managing and engaging diverse personalities, schedules, and responsibilities is essential.

Mental and Physical Demands:

Ability to lift 25lbs pounds. Requires frequent sitting, bending, standing… Performs light physical work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.  Exposed to outdoor climate and diverse terrain.
