Job description

The purpose of the Water Technical Specialist role is to maintain and operate the water technical equipment to ensure optimal system performance. We use one of the most advanced horticultural climate control systems in the industry for a fully automated and data driven approach to operate and maintain these systems daily. This position is critical to the success of the greenhouse, in which every aspect of the growing cycle relies on the water technical systems.
This role also requires the ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment and electrical troubleshooting to diagnose further system issues. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment in all areas of the greenhouse related to the water room, boiler room, electrical areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on all water and greenhouse equipment. Such as cleaning SAF filters, cleaning and calibrating sensors, taking hand measurements for various water parameters, own and operate water sector and reactive response to system troubles to ensure proper system operations, flushing and cleaning fertilizer dosing units, making repairs to screen cabling, limit switches and motors, replacing centrifugal or submersible pumps, cleaning day storage tanks.
  • Maintain pumps and piping to ensure water supply to greenhouse and Heating & Cooling System.
  • Monitor water softener units for heating and cooling system.
  • Maintain cooling & heating storage tanks, chillers, heat exchangers, heat destroyers and boilers.
  • Monitor and maintain UV units to ensure effective disinfection and proper system operations.
  • Make repairs to the HPS/LED greenhouse lighting system and maintain system operations.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with PLCs, VFD, level sensors, limit switches and electrical testing equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and diagnose issues with electrical systems and components; 480V, 240V, 120V, 24V experience.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities related to issues with water technical system.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint schematics.
  • Ability to learn and operate Hortimax growing system related to the water sector.
  • Observe summary screens, interpret graphs, and make changes to ensure proper system function.
  • Ability to operate and make repairs on roof washing equipment during season demands.
  • Digging may be required at times to repair water leaks to ensure minimal water loss.
  • Ability to take on projects in a timely and effective manner during operational demands.
  • Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GM and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product safety is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation periodically to support alarm management

SCHEDULE:
  • Sunday-Wednesday, 5:00AM-5:00PM
  • Wednesday-Saturday, 5:00AM-5:00PM

Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Plumbing knowledge: 2+ years
  • Mechanical knowledge: 2+ years
  • Electrical Knowledge: 2+ years
  • Knowledge of how to properly use hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of PVC piping, sizes, fittings, and how to glue and weld pvc.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to operate various lifts when necessary.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of the team.

Salary Description
Starting Rate $27.00/hour
