Position title: Commodity Leader

Position Summary

The Commodity Leader is responsible for the end-to-end business performance of an assigned commodity, supplier portfolio, or spend category. The role develops and executes sourcing strategies that improve cost competitiveness, supplier performance, supply continuity, risk mitigation, and operational resilience.

The Commodity Leader serves as the commercial owner and strategic interface between the business and the supply base. Working closely with Buyers, Lead Buyers, Engineering, Operations, Supplier Quality, Finance, and Program teams, the role drives supplier performance, sourcing decisions, contract management, supplier rationalization, and long-term supply strategy.

Key Accountabilities

Commodity Strategy: Develop and maintain multi-year commodity strategies, preferred supplier roadmaps, sourcing approaches, and make-versus-buy or regional sourcing recommendations.

Supplier Portfolio: Lead supplier segmentation, rationalization, consolidation, qualification, development, transition, and exit activities.

Commercial Performance: Lead sourcing events and negotiations covering price, cost productivity, lead time, capacity, payment terms, and commercial protections.

Contract Coverage: Own long-term agreements, pricing agreements, contract renewals, contractual commitments, and compliance.
Supplier Performance: Lead supplier business reviews, escalation governance, performance improvement plans, and corrective action follow-up.

Risk & Continuity: Own supplier risk visibility, dual-source roadmaps, contingency plans, capacity
mitigation, and commercial recovery actions.

Cross-Functional Governance: Align Engineering, Operations, Planning, Quality, Finance, Legal, and Program stakeholders around sourcing decisions and supplier priorities.

Leadership & Capability: Coach Buyers and Lead Buyers, establish clear priorities, drive accountability, and present strategies, risks, and outcomes to leadership.

SOURCING EXECUTION | ROLE PROFILE
Detailed Responsibilities

Commodity Strategy & Category Management
• Develop and maintain multi-year commodity strategies.
• Define preferred supplier roadmaps and sourcing approaches.
• Lead supplier segmentation and supplier rationalization initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for consolidation, standardization, and sourcing leverage.
• Support make-versus-buy and regional sourcing decisions.

Supplier Relationship Management
• Act as the strategic relationship owner for key suppliers.
• Lead supplier business reviews, strategic discussions, and performance governance.
• Establish improvement plans with underperforming suppliers.
• Drive supplier development and capability improvement initiatives.
• Support supplier onboarding, qualification, transition, and exit activities.

Commercial & Contract Management
• Lead RFQ, RFP, and strategic sourcing activities.
• Define negotiation strategies, objectives, and decision criteria.
• Negotiate pricing, lead time, capacity, payment terms, and contractual agreements.
• Manage LTAs, contract renewals, rebates, productivity commitments, and supplier obligations.
• Ensure alignment with approved sourcing direction and contractual requirements.

Risk & Supply Continuity Management
• Own supplier risk identification, visibility, and mitigation plans.
• Develop dual-source and contingency strategies.
• Monitor supplier financial, operational, capacity, and geographic risks.
• Lead commercial escalation and recovery actions during major supply disruptions.
• Ensure supplier readiness for new programs, demand changes, and business growth.
Cross-Functional Leadership
• Align sourcing decisions with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Planning, Finance, Legal, andProgram teams.
• Translate business requirements into supplier and commodity priorities.
• Mentor Buyers and Lead Buyers on commodity strategy and supplier management.
• Drive continuous improvement and best-practice adoption across the supply base.
• Present sourcing strategies, supplier risks, performance, and recommendations to leadership.

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering,
Finance, or a related discipline. CPSM, CSCP, CIPS, CPIM, or an equivalent professional certification
is preferred.

Experience: 7-10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, commodity
management, supplier relationship management, or supply chain leadership, including
demonstrated experience developing commodity strategies, leading negotiations, and managing
strategic suppliers and complex sourcing initiatives.
