Job description

Student Assistant - Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market

Job Posting

Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market, the sister nonprofit of Ithaca Farmers Market, is looking for a student to support the organization by helping with administrative tasks, community outreach, and event support. This role includes assisting with social media, website updates, fundraising and program activities, and research projects.

Reports To

  • Monika Roth, President of Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market
  • June Sheridan, Ithaca Farmers Market Pavilion Rental Coordinator (primary contact)

Hours and Pay Rate

  • 9-15 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule that works around classes and extracurricular activities
  • A mix of remote work and onsite hours at the market
  • Some weekend hours may be needed during market days or events

Length of Employment 2026 Fall Semester, with the option to continue into the Spring semester

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities (TDRs)

  • Monitor the Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market email inbox and respond to messages as needed
  • Help create and post social media content to share market news and events
  • Support tabling at the market, fundraising events, and other community outreach activities
  • Assist with farmers market research projects, including collecting customer surveys at the market and helping with parking lot counts to create reports
  • Research farmers markets and similar organizations around the country to gather ideas for fundraising events and programs
  • Contribute ideas for fundraising and events, and help with event setup and day-of support
  • Help update website content to keep information current and accurate
  • Support outreach to community partners for events or collaborative projects
  • Help keep Friends of Ithaca Farmers Market digital files organized
  • Take notes during meetings
  • Meet weekly with supervisors to review tasks and projects
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed

Work Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Ithaca College
  • Experience and confidence with graphic design, using social media, and making website updates
  • Strong communication skills and comfort interacting with the public
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Interest in farmers markets, local food systems, or community-based work
