    Power Electronics Design Engineer

    SST / Inverter / UPS Design

    About the Role

    Howard Industries is seeking a seasoned SST / Inverter / UPS Design Engineer to join our team in Laurel, MS. This role involves designing high-performance inverter and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems for industrial, utility, and energy applications. In addition to traditional UPS and inverter development, this position will support Solid-State Transformer (SST) development and integration, contributing to next-generation high-frequency, multi-port power-conversion platforms. You will participate in full product development from concept through production.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and develop inverter and UPS systems (online, solar, offline, line-interactive U
    • PS)Work on DC-DC and DC-AC converter topologies
    • Develop and optimization
    • Solar grid synchronization
    • UPS transfer control and backup functionality
    • Protection features (anti-islanding, OV/UV, short circuit)
    • Design UPS subsystems, including: Battery charging systems, Battery management integration, Static switches and bypass systems
    • Perform simulation and validation
    • Lead power-stage design, including selection of IGBTs, MOSFETs, and SiC devices
    • Collaborate with firmware teams for DSP/microcontroller-based control systems
    • Support PCB design and layout with focus on EMI/EMC and thermal optimization
    • Conduct testing, debugging, and system validation
    • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, UL standards for inverter and UPS systems
    • Contribute to SST subsystem development, integration, and validation


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics
    • At least 5 years of experience in inverter and/or UPS design
    • Strong expertise in: Power converter topologies, UPS architecture and operation Control systems and digital power control H-bridge and full-bridge inverter design


    Preferred Skills

    • Knowledge of battery technologies (Li-ion, Lead-acid) and BMS integration
    • Experience in solar + storage hybrid systems
    • Familiarity with SiC/GaN power devices
    • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance and thermal design
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to own subsystem or module-level designs
    • Cross-functional collaboration mindset
    • Passion for reliable and efficient power solutions
    • Experience with Solid-State Transformers (SST) major plus
