Job description

We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Avionics Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development of the next generation of hypersonic vehicles. As a Lead Avionics Engineer at Hermeus, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design, analysis, and testing of electrical systems for our hypersonic vehicles. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our electrical systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.ย 

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership across the organization, manage related risk and change across the program, drive new technology introduction, and provide mentoring for less senior engineers.ย 
  • Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test.ย 
  • Create development and qualification testing campaigns and exercise designs to their limits.ย 
  • Support hardware through production, integration, and flight.ย 
  • Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable. Challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships.ย ย 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineeringย 
  • 5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: electrical hardware design, control systems, instrumentation and signal conditioning, digital communication busses, analog design and simulation, power electronics, harness designย 
  • 1+ years leading a technical engineering team.ย ย 
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Breadth of experience across various electrical technical fields including RF, digital, analog, and video systemsย ย 
  • Demonstrated project experience with embedded design, device integration, V&V, environmental qualification and/or flight testingย 
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and/or servicing electrical power distribution systems and/or networksย 
  • Familiarity with test and simulation tools (DMM, Oscilloscope, power supplies, SPICE, Ansys)ย 
  • Experience with electrical and mechanical design and version control software (Altium Designer, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Capital Harness, Git, Teamcenter)ย 
  • Experience with avionics devices and protocols (RS-485, ARINC-685, FPGAs, GPS, INS, D38999 style connectors, etc.)ย 
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skillsย 
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, DO-160G)ย 
  • Experience working with DC power systems (Batteries, Motors, Generators, etc.)ย 
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skillsย 
  • Writing software in Python or similar for analysis or data reviewย 
  • A bias towards action, and a willingness to work hands-on to make it happenย 
  • Ability to travel on short notice to support test campaignsย 
$138,550 - $187,450 a year

The salary range listed for this role is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including role scope and responsibilities, relevant experience, education and training, key skills, market data, and business needs.
