    General Construction Inspector -Fly-in/Fly-out or Drive to Active Construction Sites

    Location: Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL (Fly-in/Fly-out), and various locations across Eastern Canada
    Rotation: 7/7 or 14/14 (TBD)

    Your opportunity

    EXP is seeking a General Construction Inspector to support remote infrastructure projects based primarily out of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, with possible construction oversight at other sites across Eastern Canada.

    This role is ideal for a materials-focused inspector with strong experience in construction oversight, field and laboratory testing, and quality assurance. You will play a key role in ensuring construction activities meet contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements in a remote project environment. Previous experience in materials testing is desirable, but training is also available.

    What a day at EXP has in store for you

    • Perform on-site inspection and monitoring of construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and standards
    • Oversee and document contractor activities, ensuring adherence to contract requirements and quality expectations
    • Conduct and/or coordinate construction materials testing (soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete) both in the field and laboratory
    • Monitor earthworks, compaction, grading, paving and structural works to verify compliance with design and specifications
    • Maintain accurate daily inspection reports, field notes, and photographic records 
    • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and test results to identify and proactively resolve issues 
    • Track quantities and support progress measurements and payment verification 
    • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders to address technical issues and maintain schedule
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements on site
    • Participate in progress meetings and provide updates on construction activities, quality concerns, and risks 
    • Support QA/QC processes and verify that materials and workmanship meet applicable standards (CSA, ASTM, AASHTO as applicable)

    What your experience looks like

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in: 
      • Construction inspection / oversight
      • Construction materials testing (field + lab)
      • Quality assurance / quality control
    • Strong knowledge of soils, asphalt, and concrete testing methods
    • Experience working on infrastructure, civil, or heavy construction projects
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and test data 
    • Proven ability to work independently in remote environments
    • Strong documentation and reporting skills

    Assets:

    • CCIL, ACI, or equivalent materials certifications
    • Experience with nuclear density gauge and compaction testing
    • Familiarity with or willingness to participate on northern or remote construction projects

    Additional requirements

    • Willingness to work on a fly-in/fly-out rotation (7/7 or 14/14)
    • Valid driver's license
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Flexibility to work extended hours as required by project demands
