Job description

Job Title: Teacher Department/School:   Reports To: Principal Job Category: Certified Daily Hours 8.00 FLSA Category: Non-Exempt Work Days: 190 Salary Schedule: Certified Teacher Salary Scale 2025-2026 Pay Grades: Bachelors-Doctorate Job Summary Under general supervision assists students in learning subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults. Reports to the school principal. Essential Job Functions
  1. Cooperates in developing a program of continuous progress consistent with District goals and objectives to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of pupils.
  2. Keeps abreast of changes in District policies and students' needs and interests.
  3. Establishes clear and appropriate objectives for all classroom activities and communicates these objectives to students.
  4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Analyzes the progress of individual students on a regular basis and seeks appropriate assistance as needed.
  6. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  7. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of pupils.
  8. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteers and evaluates their performance. Provides adequate plans for substitute teachers and evaluates their performance.
  9. Seeks the cooperation and assistance of parents through oral or written communication and/or home visits.
  10. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  11. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by state or federal law, District policies, and administrative regulations.
  12. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to properly care for all property, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  14. Is punctual and responsible in performing all duties and activities as assigned.
  15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life, conduct and behavior in a fair and just manner.
  16. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  17. Participates in school or District staff development programs as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
  18. Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees as requested, and accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular or other activities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
  19. Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the "chain of command" as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures.
  20. Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities.
  21. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.
  22. Maintains high quality communication and interaction with internal and external entities with whom the position interacts.
  23. Performs routine administrative / office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, etc.
  24. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by the Superintendent of Schools.
Education and Experience:
  1. Education and experience as required by state certification authorities.
  2. Proficient in computers and word processing software; or any equivalent combination of training software and experience that provide required knowledge.
  3. Supports the vision, mission and beliefs of Hampton County School District.
Knowledge:
  1. Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school District which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
  2. Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning.
  3. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained.
  4. Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities.
  5. Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems.
  6. Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities.
Skills/Effort:
  1. Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice.
  2. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations.
  3. Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities.
  4. Ability to prepare lesson plans, tests, and instructional materials for classroom activities.
  5. Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents.

  1. Conducts duties in a classroom environment with some exposure to environmental conditions.
  2. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students.
  3. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
  4. Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  5. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require meeting tight deadlines, considerable attention and working with both adults and students.
