Overview

The mechanic maintenance specialist performs advanced maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and rigging systems. This role supports crane maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, and gear management while ensuring operational readiness and compliance with safety standards. Responsibilities include diagnostics, complex repairs, and mentoring junior staff.


Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or crane maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools.
  • Knowledge of rigging gear and safe handling practices.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability standards.
  • TWIC card required or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced inspections and diagnostics on mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, brakes, hubs, drive, and steer assemblies.
  • Plan and execute complex repairs, including part identification and restoration to OEM specifications.
  • Operate and test repaired equipment to confirm compliance with operational standards.
  • Complete thorough documentation for all work orders and maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, electronic, PLC, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
    • Determine the root cause of failures and recommend system improvements.
  • Electrical & Crane Support:
    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, wiring, and components.
    • Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
    • Assist with crane maintenance and major repairs under supervision.
    • Utilize diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Cummins, Volvo, PLC systems).
  • Gear Management:
    • Inspect rigging gear (slings, shackles, straps, chains, wires, cables) for wear and compliance.
    • Perform minor repairs and adjustments; coordinate major repairs with maintenance.
    • Ensure gear is properly stored, organized, and available for operational use.
    • Assign tools and gear to crews and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Leadership & Development:
    • Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 mechanics in troubleshooting and complex repairs.
    • Share best practices and assist in training junior team members.
    • Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations teams regarding equipment status.
