Greenwich Play is a play space design studio rooted in developmental expertise. We create highly considered residential and commercial spaces where children can move, imagine, build, create, and grow.

Our work sits at the intersection of interior design, childhood development, and real family life. Every project must be beautiful, but it must also be safe, functional, durable, and thoughtfully designed for the way children actually use a space.

We are looking for an Associate Playroom Designer to join our women-led design team and help translate our creative concepts into clear, accurate, buildable designs.

About the Role

This is a technical design position for someone who is highly skilled in drafting, 3D modeling, rendering, and construction documentation.

You will work closely with our designers and project managers to develop playroom concepts into polished visual presentations, detailed CAD drawings, custom millwork documentation, and installation-ready construction packages.

The right candidate is both technically rigorous and creatively engaged. You understand that a successful drawing set is not simply attractive or precise. It anticipates how a room will be built, how different trades will interpret the design, and how children will ultimately move through and interact with the finished space.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed and accurate CAD drawings, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and construction details
• Develop 3D models and photorealistic renderings that clearly communicate the design intent
• Translate design concepts, sketches, measurements, and inspiration into buildable documentation
• Prepare construction and installation drawing packages for contractors, millworkers, fabricators, installers, and other project partners
• Document custom millwork, built-ins, climbing elements, play structures, storage systems, wall treatments, and specialty installations
• Incorporate revisions accurately and maintain organized drawing sets throughout each project
• Coordinate dimensions, clearances, materials, finishes, and product specifications across drawings
• Identify potential design, construction, safety, or installation conflicts before they reach the field
• Support the design team with space planning, furniture layouts, material presentations, and technical problem-solving
• Participate in internal design reviews and project coordination meetings
• Help maintain Greenwich Play’s drafting standards, templates, file organization, and documentation systems
• Communicate clearly and professionally with the internal team, vendors, fabricators, and project partners

Qualifications

• Degree in interior design, architecture, environmental design, or a related field
• At least [2–5] years of professional drafting, interior design, architectural, millwork, or construction documentation experience
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD
• Strong proficiency in SketchUp or another professional 3D modeling program
• Experience producing high-quality renderings using Enscape, V-Ray, Lumion, Twinmotion, or a comparable platform
• Strong understanding of interior construction, custom millwork, dimensions, materials, and installation requirements
• Ability to create thorough, organized, and contractor-ready drawing sets
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy
• Strong spatial reasoning and an ability to interpret both creative direction and technical constraints
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, revisions, and drawing packages simultaneously
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable receiving feedback and collaborating closely with a creative team

What Will Make You Stand Out

• Experience documenting custom residential interiors, children’s spaces, hospitality environments, schools, recreation spaces, or amenity spaces
• Experience working with custom millworkers, fabricators, contractors, and installers
• Knowledge of materials and construction methods related to upholstered wall panels, climbing equipment, play structures, specialty flooring, built-ins, and architectural details
• Familiarity with accessibility, safety, and dimensional considerations in environments designed for children
• Experience conducting field measurements or translating site measurements into existing-condition drawings
• A portfolio that demonstrates both strong technical documentation and compelling visual presentation
• A genuine interest in designing spaces that support children and families
