Job description

About the Firm

We are a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary land development consulting firm providing civil engineering, traffic engineering, planning, and surveying services throughout the Northeast. Our Survey Department is an integral part of the organization, supporting a wide range of private and public sector clients on commercial, industrial, residential, and redevelopment projects.

As our New Jersey operations continue to grow, we are seeking a Survey Project Manager to serve as the right-hand partner to the Survey Department Leader. This individual will help guide project delivery, manage clients, coordinate field and office staff, and contribute to the long-term advancement of the New Jersey survey practice.

Position Overview

The Survey Project Manager is responsible for overseeing survey projects from proposal through final deliverables, while ensuring technical excellence, schedule adherence, and client satisfaction.

You will play a key operational role—supporting department leadership, managing workflows, providing technical review, mentoring staff, and ensuring field and office teams stay aligned. This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking a long-term leadership path within a modern, growth-oriented surveying environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management & Delivery
  • Direct and manage boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, right-of-way, as-built, and construction layout surveys
  • Coordinate project schedules, staffing, and field/office workflows
  • Perform QA/QC on survey calculations, CAD drawings, maps, plats, and legal descriptions
  • Conduct and review deed research, boundary analysis, and record document evaluations
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements

Client & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and project timelines
  • Maintain strong client relationships and support business development efforts
  • Provide technical explanations and project updates in a clear, professional manner

Leadership & Department Support

  • Work closely with the Survey Department Leader to manage daily operations within the NJ survey practice
  • Mentor, train, and support Survey Technicians, Crew Chiefs, and CAD staff
  • Assist with developing and improving workflows, technology adoption, and resource planning
  • Promote a culture of safety, accuracy, professionalism, and collaboration

Qualifications

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred
  • OR actively working toward licensure (SIT or in progress)
  • 7+ years of progressive land surveying experience (field and/or office)
  • Demonstrated experience managing survey projects and interacting directly with clients
  • Strong understanding of boundary resolution, ALTA/NSPS standards, construction layout workflows, and topographic mapping
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Carlson Survey
  • Experience reviewing deeds, easements, plats, and record documents
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and help guide field crews
  • Self-directed problem solver with the ability to make sound decisions

What the Firm Offers

  • Competitive salary + performance-based incentives
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Professional development and support for licensure
  • A collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Involvement in a diverse mix of land development projects
