Job description

Director, Cost Savings Validation & Client Delivery

Procurement-finance leader — validates and forecasts client savings, owns the commercial relationship, 80% hands-on

About the Role

We are looking for a leader to own the validation of negotiated cost savings and the commercial client relationship across a portfolio of large enterprise clients. The heart of this role is making sure the savings we report to clients are accurate, defensible, and realized — and forecasting, going forward, how much each client will save. Because our business operates predominantly under gainshare and at-risk pricing arrangements, the rigor of this validation directly drives client trust and company revenue.

This is a procurement-finance role, not a sourcing role. The person we are hiring does not primarily create savings by negotiating deals — they validate, underwrite, and forecast the savings, build and defend the numbers, and structure the commercial mechanics (price-adjustment formulas, at-risk/gainshare pricing) that translate negotiated outcomes into realized client value. The ideal background is someone who has sat on the financial / validation side of procurement — measuring, substantiating, and forecasting savings — rather than the category-sourcing side.

This is a hands-on, player-coach role. The person should expect to spend roughly 80% of their time personally in the validation and forecasting work, staying close to the analytics, client nuances, and methodology — while leading a small team and owning the client relationship.

The role is based in Toronto: two team members who report into this position are located there, and day-to-day proximity to them is required.

Top Priorities

  1. Manage the function of delivery — own the savings-validation and value-realization process end to end, ensuring outputs are accurate, defensible, on-time, and ready for the client.
  2. Evolve and automate the function — much of the validation and reporting workflow can be modernized; drive that through analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tooling.
  3. Manage the commercial client relationship — serve as the senior point of contact for client procurement and finance stakeholders, leading validation, forecasting, pricing, and occasionally contentious savings conversations.

What You'll Do

Cost Savings Validation & Forecasting (the core — ~80% hands-on)

  • Personally lead the review, validation, and underwriting of negotiated cost savings before they are transmitted to clients — standing behind the analytics, assumptions, and methodology.
  • Build and own defensible baselines and savings methodologies; ensure every figure can withstand scrutiny from sophisticated client finance stakeholders.
  • Forecast forward-looking client savings, and build and maintain price-adjustment formulas and at-risk / gainshare pricing models.
  • Distinguish realized savings from cost avoidance, and ensure outcomes are operationalized and realized within client organizations.
  • Oversee the accuracy of savings-realization tracking and client invoicing.
  • Maintain exceptional standards for analytical rigor, quality control, and methodological consistency.

Function Delivery & Modernization

  • Own the savings-validation function operationally — process, quality, throughput, and consistency of execution.
  • Evolve and automate the function through analytics, automation, and AI-enabled workflows, advancing its sophistication and efficiency.
  • Identify capability gaps and continuously improve how validation and forecasting get done.

Commercial Client Leadership

  • Serve as the senior point of contact for client procurement and finance stakeholders throughout validation, forecasting, pricing, and realization.
  • Lead complex and occasionally contentious conversations on savings validation, pricing, and invoicing — defending figures with confidence and credibility.
  • Translate complex analyses into clear, practical, and defensible client communications.
  • Own commercial client interactions and invoicing currently handled by senior leadership, removing operational burden from the leadership team.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and elevate a small, experienced team (including team members based in Toronto).
  • Coach experienced professionals while respecting and leveraging the expertise they already hold; create accountability while staying personally close to the work.

What We're Looking For

The target background is procurement finance / cost-savings validation — someone who validates and forecasts savings, not someone who sources or negotiates them.

  • 10+ years across procurement finance, savings/benefits validation, procurement audit, value-realization, commercial finance, or closely related areas.
  • Demonstrated ownership of validating negotiated cost savings — building defensible baselines and methodologies, substantiating outcomes, and defending figures to client or executive stakeholders. (Experience creating savings through sourcing is useful context but is not the core requirement.)
  • Experience with forward savings forecasting, price-adjustment modeling, and at-risk / gainshare pricing — or directly transferable commercial-finance experience (e.g., outsourcing/BPO, managed services, or procurement advisory where at-risk/gainshare economics are core).
  • Experience owning commercial client relationships in a client-service environment, including leading difficult financial conversations with credibility and sound judgment.
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen, including advanced comfort with large, complex datasets and financial modeling.
  • A genuine appetite to automate and modernize the validation function through technology, analytics, and AI.
  • A hands-on operator comfortable spending the majority of their time personally in the analysis, while leading a small team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — able to make complex analyses clear, credible, and persuasive.
  • High ownership, accountability, and attention to detail, with the ability to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Technical & Operational Skills

Required

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modeling (baselines, savings forecasting, pricing models).
  • Strong comfort working with data, analytics, and technology-enabled workflows.
  • Experience using AI productivity and analysis tools (and an appetite to deploy them to automate the function).

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with ERP and procurement platforms (SAP, Oracle, Ariba, Coupa, or similar).
  • Experience improving operational workflows through automation or AI.

Requirements

  • Based in Toronto (required — two direct team members are Toronto-based)
  • Authorized to work in Canada.
  • Note on positioning: this role is a procurement-finance / savings-validation leader who validates and forecasts cost savings and owns the commercial client relationship — not a category-sourcing leader and not a corporate FP&A generalist. Assess first on validation-of-savings experience, at-risk/gainshare pricing fluency, commercial client ownership, and Toronto location; procurement-sourcing depth and finance pedigree are secondary.
