Job Summary

An Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of utility-scale, commercial, and solar energy projects from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout. The role assists the Project Manager in coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, scheduling, cost control, quality assurance, and client communications while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support overall management of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Assist with project planning, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Track project budgets, purchase orders, invoices, and expenditures.
  • Maintain job cost reports and cost-control logs.
  • Assist in preparing, pricing, and negotiating change orders.
  • Support subcontract management and contract compliance.
  • Coordinate with field supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Monitor construction productivity, material deliveries, and site logistics.
  • Assist in resolving field issues and technical challenges with engineering teams.
  • Participate in site inspections and project meetings.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, monitor construction progress, manage project documentation, and facilitate successful project completion from pre-construction through commissioning.
  • Support budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor management, document control, quality assurance, and client reporting while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Provides total commitment to continuous process improvement.
  • Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization.
  • Meets schedules and deadlines, adheres to policies and procedures and maintains a good attendance/tardiness record.
  • Ensures client satisfaction, both internally and externally, through efficient handling of issues.
  • Exercises good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish work of the organization, even if it is outside the scope of regular duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Management Responsibilities

Effectively trains, coaches, disciplines and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability

Knowledge and ability to prepare detailed planning for construction projects, schedules and estimates and to make proper modifications to such, using a computer and standard company software. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings and technical specifications. Ability to perform quantity take-offs, estimate construction costs, organize bid forms and bid packages, and manage project budgets. Ability and skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, as in providing written and oral instructions to employees and in communicating with architects, clients and subcontractors. Knowledge of and application skills in geometry, trigonometry and algebra. Working knowledge of computers and basic software programs. Ability to manage project teams, large groups of personnel and the ability to accomplish desired results through delegation. Working knowledge of company standard policies and procedures. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar project management software. Cost tracking, scheduling, procurement, and contract administration.

Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and EPC project delivery methods.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management Civil / Electrical / Architectural Engineering, or similar or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

At least 2–5 years of experience in construction, renewable energy, or utility-scale solar projects.

  • Occasionally, especially when managing multiple projects and during problematic opening and/or closing phases of projects, mental stress can be taxing.
  • May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time.

Special Job Dimensions

The office provides a safe and healthy work environment, is adequately heated and cooled, is free from exposure and extreme conditions, has appropriate lighting and office furnishings, and is smoke-free and drug-free.

Open to a hybrid work arrangement, with the understanding that the position requires travel to project sites and area offices as needed.
