Job description

Position Summary:
The Liability Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving liability claims made under any Florida Peninsula, Edison Insurance or Ovation Home Insurance Exchange insurance policies.
Essential Functions:
  • Investigate third-party liability claims involving Florida homeowners' policies, including premises liability, property damage, bodily injury, dog bite, slip-and-fall, and other covered incidents.
  • Review policy language, endorsements, exclusions, and applicable coverage forms to determine exposures and complex coverage questions. Interpret and recommend policy coverage and/or denial of coverage.
  • Conduct field investigations and phone interviews to determine origin and cause of loss, identify potential fraud.
  • Obtain and analyze recorded statements, police reports, incident reports, photographs, estimates, medical records, invoices, repair documentation, and other supporting materials.
  • Evaluate liability and develop theories of liability, assess comparative negligence, damages, settlement value for bodily injury, property damage and subrogation potential.
  • Communicate professionally, written and verbally, with insureds, claimants, attorneys, vendors, internal and external business partners including defense and coverage counsel. Write clear and concise letters, reports and initial case reviews.
  • Document claim activity, coverage analysis, liability evaluation, settlement rationale, and communications accurately and timely in the claims management system.
  • Negotiate settlements within assigned authority and escalate matters requiring additional review or authority.
  • Identify claims involving litigation, coverage disputes, fraud indicators, regulatory concerns, or complex exposure and refer as appropriate.
  • Effectively manage a case load and coordinate with supervisors, SIU, subrogation, underwriting, managers, executives and other departments as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Florida fair claims-handling practices, company best practices standards, and applicable deadlines.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Must currently hold and maintain a Florida 620 Adjuster's License
  • Five years or more of adjusting experience to include homeowners' liability claims adjusting
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with MS Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams are preferred
