Job description

Description:

Founded in 1991 with the opening of Care-a-Lot’s first childcare center in Greece, NY, First Learning has grown into one of North America’s Top 50 for-profit childcare organizations. Our network includes Care-a-Lot, Generations Child Care, Storybook Academy, Island Kids, and Windsor Academy—united by a shared mission: delivering exceptional early childhood education, strong leadership, and outstanding family experiences.

About the Role
This isn’t your typical assistant teacher position. As a Regional Floating Assistant Teacher, you’ll support 3–6 centers, stepping in wherever you’re needed—daily, weekly, or monthly. Your flexibility keeps classrooms running smoothly while helping build strong connections across our community of educators, children, and families.

You’ll have a designated home center, but your day-to-day work may take you to different locations, where you’ll collaborate with various teams and leaders.

What You’ll Do

Classroom Support

  • Assist Lead Teachers with daily routines and learning activities
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment
  • Step into classrooms as needed to maintain proper staffing ratios

Child Engagement

  • Build positive relationships with children across multiple centers
  • Support social, emotional, and developmental growth through play
  • Bring energy, warmth, and consistency to every classroom

Family Communication

  • Communicate professionally with families about their child’s day
  • Create a welcoming, reassuring presence—even as a new face
  • Maintain strict confidentiality

Team Collaboration

  • Adapt quickly and integrate into different classroom teams
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and center leadership
  • Support a consistent, team-oriented culture across locations

Compliance & Documentation

  • Follow OCFS regulations and company policies
  • Assist with records and documentation
  • Maintain proper supervision standards at all times

Who Thrives in This Role

  • Adaptable and comfortable with change
  • Enjoys travel as part of the workday
  • Builds trust quickly with children and families
  • Reliable, positive, and eager to grow

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years old
  • Meets New York State requirements for Assistant Teachers
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation

Preferred

  • 1+ year experience working with children
  • Childcare or early education background
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Career Growth
We actively develop future leaders. In this role, you’ll:

  • Gain multi-site experience that accelerates your career
  • Move into Lead Teacher opportunities
  • Receive support toward CDA and further education
  • Be first considered for roles in new and expanding centers

Ready to Apply?
If you’re energetic, dependable, and passionate about early childhood education, this is your opportunity to make an impact across multiple classrooms.

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Employee assistance program
  • Employee discount
  • Flexible schedule
  • Paid time off
  • Referral program
  • Retirement plan

Work Location: In person
