    Job Summary
    The Entry-Level Data Center Technician supports the installation and maintenance of structured cabling and infrastructure within data center environments. This role assists with installing copper and fiber cabling, building cable pathways, installing racks and cabinets, and organizing cable management systems. Technicians work closely with experienced technicians and supervisors while learning industry standards for telecommunications and low voltage systems. This position provides hands-on training and an opportunity to develop skills in data center infrastructure, safety compliance, and installation practices while supporting active construction and infrastructure projects.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Install copper and fiber cabling according to project specifications and industry standards
    • Pull, route, and secure cables while maintaining proper bend radius and cable separation
    • Install cable pathways including ladder rack, basket tray, J hooks, conduit, and fiber tray systems
    • Install racks, cabinets, ladder rack, grounding systems, and related infrastructure hardware
    • Perform rack and stack installation of equipment within server cabinets and racks
    • Terminate copper cabling and assist with fiber cable terminations
    • Dress, label, and organize cables within racks, cabinets, and cable management systems
    • Support Outside Plant fiber installation entering data center facilities
    • Receive materials and assist with hardware assembly and equipment preparation
    • Perform basic cable testing and assist with advanced testing when required
    • Read and interpret construction drawings, cable maps, and installation diagrams
    • Follow safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA and site safety standards
    • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant work areas throughout the shift
    • Communicate progress, issues, and material needs to supervisors or lead technicians
    • Document completed work, cable counts, and installation changes
    • Coordinate with other trades to avoid installation conflicts and maintain project timelines
    • Support lead technicians and foremen with installation tasks and project execution

    Job Requirements

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
    • 0 to 2 years of experience in data center, telecommunications, or low voltage environments preferred
    • Basic understanding of structured cabling systems including copper and fiber
    • Ability to pull, route, and secure cables through ladder rack, basket tray, J hooks, and conduit pathways
    • Familiarity with copper cabling termination such as Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6A preferred
    • Exposure to fiber cabling or fiber termination preferred
    • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, cable maps, and installation diagrams
    • Basic knowledge of cable testing tools such as continuity testers, tone and probe, or fiber testing equipment
    • Understanding of cable bend radius, cable support requirements, and structured cabling standards
    • Ability to work safely on construction sites and follow safety protocols
    • Strong communication skills and ability to report progress, issues, and material needs
    • Ability to maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with data center standards
    • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, overhead spaces, and occasionally in confined areas
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds when necessary
    • Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods during shifts
    • OSHA 10 certification preferred

    Work Experience

    • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply
    • Experience installing low voltage cabling in commercial, industrial, or data center environments is beneficial
    • Experience working on active construction sites and coordinating with other trades is helpful
