Enercon Jobs Information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electrical Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electrical Engineer, you need a solid understanding of circuit design, electronics, mathematics, and physics, usually backed by a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like MATLAB or PSpice, and knowledge of relevant industry standards or certifications (such as a Professional Engineer license) are commonly expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills set outstanding engineers apart. These competencies are critical for designing safe, efficient electrical systems and collaborating effectively on complex engineering projects.

What are some common challenges Electrical Engineers face when working on multidisciplinary project teams?

Electrical Engineers often collaborate with professionals from mechanical, civil, and software engineering backgrounds. A common challenge is ensuring clear communication and alignment of technical specifications, as each discipline may have different priorities and terminologies. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to translate complex electrical concepts for diverse audiences. Building mutual understanding helps prevent project delays and ensures seamless integration of electrical systems with other components.

What does an Electrical Engineer do?

An Electrical Engineer designs, develops, tests, and supervises the manufacturing of electrical equipment, such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, and power generation equipment. They work in a variety of industries, including energy, manufacturing, telecommunications, and electronics. Their role often involves problem-solving, project management, and ensuring that systems comply with safety and quality standards. Electrical Engineers also collaborate with other engineers and professionals to bring projects from concept to completion.

What is the difference between Electrical Engineer vs Electrical Technician?

AspectElectrical EngineerElectrical Technician
Required CredentialsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related fieldAssociate degree or technical diploma in electrical technology
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and testing of electrical systems, often in offices or labsInstallation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems, often on-site
Employer & Industry UsageEngineering firms, manufacturing, power generation, and consultingConstruction, maintenance, and manufacturing industries

Electrical engineers focus on designing and developing electrical systems, requiring a bachelor's degree, while electrical technicians handle installation and maintenance, typically with technical diplomas. Both roles are essential in the electrical industry but differ in responsibilities and educational requirements.

ENERCON is seeking a Level 1 Technical Support Specialist to join its specialized team dedicated to supporting local teams across Canada. The incumbent plays a key role in providing remote technical assistance, wind farm monitoring, fault analysis, and coordination with higher-level support teams.

As a Level 1 Technical Support Specialist, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for field teams, site managers, after-sales service, and internal departments. You will directly contribute to the availability, reliability, and performance of ENERCON wind turbines while ensuring compliance with the company's quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries from field technicians, site managers, after-sales service, and internal departments
  • Provide first-level technical support, including fault analysis, assistance with software updates, and troubleshooting support
  • Escalate complex issues to Level 2 Technical Support or to engineering teams in Germany, as required
  • Analyze recurring technical issues and support the implementation of corrective and preventive measures
  • Support field teams through remote monitoring of wind farms across Canada and perform remote turbine restarts to maximize availability
  • Collaborate with Level 2 Support to develop, improve, and communicate technical instructions and procedures
  • Ensure clear and proactive communication to provide technicians with accurate and up-to-date work instructions
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues in collaboration with colleagues, suppliers, and engineering departments
  • Participate in weekend on-call rotations as part of remote support operations
  • Act as the designated resource for confined space permits and ensure field teams leave facilities safely at the end of each workday

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support Level 2 Technical Support by creating and updating lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, monitoring temperature alerts, tracking parameter changes, and collecting key technical data to monitor and visualize performance improvements
  • Conduct periodic site visits to maintain technical expertise and provide on-site support and training to maintenance teams
  • Perform any other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering, wind turbine maintenance certification, or recognized equivalent experience
  • Journeyperson status in a relevant trade (an asset)

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in French, both spoken and written, required as the normal and customary working language in Quebec. Good working knowledge of English, both spoken and written, required due to regular interactions with teams, clients, and suppliers located outside Quebec, collaboration with international technical teams, and the daily use of documentation, systems, and technical tools primarily available in English.
  • Practical knowledge of ENERCON wind turbine operation and maintenance
  • Strong commitment to occupational health and safety and associated protocols
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, SCADA, SAP, and other relevant software (an asset)
