Job description

Superintendent – Construction
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Base Salary Range $110,00 to $150,000
 
Our Client is a leading construction organization committed to delivering high-quality projects while creating opportunities, careers, and stronger communities. You'll have the opportunity to support a major project from concept to completion, collaborating closely with project partners and stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and successful outcomes.
 
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Project Manager to ensure implementation of the company's safety program, including integrating safety requirements into all site plans and procedures and adhering to all safety and record-keeping requirements.
  • Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the project team, including direct and indirect reports.
  • Effectively communicate with internal teams and trades while ensuring performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
  • Collaborate consistently with the Construction/Project Manager and project team to proactively manage potential problems, work interferences, and schedule conflicts or setbacks.
  • Liaise between field engineers, estimators, and subcontractors to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
  • Liaise with clients, other site contractors, union and labour relations representatives, and site and office personnel.
  • Visualize the entire project, develop the overall project schedule, identify the critical path, and anticipate constructability issues.
  • Develop and implement the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and resource-loaded three-week lookahead schedules.
  • Create, maintain, and execute the project plan and schedule while ensuring compliance with budget and quality requirements.
  • Review and understand contracts and subcontracts and develop plans to identify and mitigate risks while maximizing opportunities to ensure financial targets, including budgets, forecasts, and profitability, are achieved.
  • Maintain project administration correspondence and comply with documentation requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong, customer-focused relationships with all project stakeholders.
 
 
Qualifications
  • Journeyman certificate or undergraduate/engineering degree in a related discipline.
  • Enrollment in the Gold Seal program is preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in field supervision preferred.
  • Proven experience successfully supervising a construction workforce.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, methods, and procedures.
  • Understanding of project scope and ability to apply basic engineering principles and develop solutions within construction plans and schedules.
  • Proficient understanding of scheduling principles and the ability to apply logic to develop project plans using scheduling software.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating workforce and trade contractors using three-week lookahead schedules.
  • Thorough understanding of productivity rates, labour cost reporting, and the ability to interpret cost reports.
  • Ability to complete material, labour, and equipment takeoffs.
  • Thorough understanding of contract language with the ability to identify and mitigate risks while identifying and leveraging opportunities.
  • In-depth knowledge and application of safety and environmental principles, procedures, and legislation.
  • Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with clients, consultants, trades, workforce, and internal employees.
  • Ability to present at client meetings and support project pursuit activities.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and construction/project management systems.
