Job Description:

The Data Center Facility Operations Engineer ensures optimal performance of the building infrastructure by maintaining and troubleshooting critical systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. This role supports uninterrupted operation of mission-critical equipment in high-availability environments, responding swiftly to incidents, and conducting preventative maintenance safely and efficiently. This position involves both hands-on work and coordination with internal stakeholders, vendors, and automation platforms.

This is a physically hands-on technician role. The successful candidate will be actively involved in the day-to-day maintenance and operation of critical facility systems while working with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment. There is significant opportunity for career growth and advancement within DataOne for individuals who demonstrate strong technical aptitude and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance:

  • Electrical equipment including switchgear, breakers, UPS, ATS, transformers and generators.
  • Mechanical infrastructure including chillers, dry coolers, FHU, CDU, CRAH units, and HVAC systems.
  • Inspect and service mechanical components such as pumps, motors, heat exchangers, valves, and associated controls.
  • Plumbing systems including domestic water supply, chiller plant, and associated pipes, valves and in-rack liquid cooling components.
  • Perform routine hands-on maintenance tasks including changing air filters, cleaning pump strainers, replacing pumps or pump shaft seals, replacing condenser fan motors, and replenishing salt in water softeners.
  • Perform general facility cleaning and housekeeping as needed to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient operating environment.

Preventative & Predictive Maintenance:

  • Execute and optimize PM programs using CMMS tools.
  • Analyze performance trends for early detection of degradation or failure.
  • Interface with OEMs and vendors for calibration, diagnostics, and part replacements.

Troubleshooting & Incident Response:

  • Lead diagnostics during infrastructure faults; complete root cause analysis reports.
  • Escalate issues as needed and support incident resolution within SLA parameters.
  • Document all technical findings, repair actions, and risk mitigation steps.

Compliance & Vendor Coordination:

  • Ensure operations adhere to local code, internal policy, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Escort vendors, review scope of work, and verify completion.
  • Participate in audits, fire/life safety inspections, and sustainability reporting.

Continuous Improvement & Safety:

  • Identifying and Addressing Safety Hazards.
  • Standardizing procedures and practicing emergency response plans.
  • Support commissioning and integrated systems testing.

This opportunity is a full-time onsite position supporting a 24/7 Tier III mission-critical facility and requires a 12-hour rotating shift schedule with an on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Education – High school diploma or GED required; technical training or trade certification highly preferred (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical).
  • Journeyman or Master License in Electrical or Mechanical.
  • Experience – 2–4 years in facility maintenance, preferably in data centers, hospitals, or manufacturing.
  • Skills – Hands-on troubleshooting, vendor coordination, change management support, ability to read schematics and technical diagrams, and willingness to perform physically demanding maintenance tasks in a mission-critical environment.
  • Certifications – EPA Universal (for HVAC), Electrical Journeyman license, OSHA 10/30, NFPA-70E, trade certifications (plumbing or mechanical).

Training & Development Opportunities

  • Factory training for major OEM systems: Square D, Schneider, Liebert/Vertiv, Trane, Carrier.
  • CMMS and ticketing system platforms.
  • Safety systems: confined space entry, arc flash protection, lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Electrical/mechanical cross-training and simulation-based drills for incident response.
