Construction Inspector ? Residential Subdivision
Consultant Engineering, Inc. (CEI) ? Yuma, Arizona
Position Summary
Consultant Engineering, Inc. (CEI) is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to support residential subdivision development projects in Yuma, Arizona. This position is ideal for a seasoned inspector with strong knowledge of municipal construction standards, civil infrastructure, and residential site development.
The Construction Inspector will be responsible for field inspection of subdivision improvements, ensuring work is constructed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, municipal standards, and applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect residential subdivision construction activities from initial grading through final completion.
- Verify earthwork, grading, excavation, compaction, and drainage are performed according to approved plans and specifications.
- Inspect installation of water and sewer utilities, including mains, services, structures, testing, trenching, bedding, backfill, and connections.
- Inspect underground utilities, including gas, electrical, communications, and other dry utilities.
- Inspect roadway construction, including subgrade preparation, aggregate base, asphalt paving, pavement thickness, and final roadway improvements.
- Inspect curb and gutter, sidewalks, driveways, ADA improvements, ramps, and other concrete improvements.
- Inspect trenching, bedding, backfill, compaction, and restoration associated with underground utilities.
- Inspect street lighting and related infrastructure, including conduit, pull boxes, foundations, and associated improvements.
- Verify construction conforms to approved civil plans, municipal specifications, MAG Standards, project specifications, and applicable codes.
- Monitor contractor activities and identify construction deficiencies or deviations from approved plans.
- Document daily construction activities, inspections, quantities, deficiencies, and project progress.
- Coordinate with contractors, developers, utility companies, engineers, municipalities, and project management personnel.
- Review materials, testing results, and field conditions to verify compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in project meetings, preconstruction meetings, and coordination activities as needed.
- Assist with punch lists, final inspections, as-builts, and project closeout documentation.
- Communicate issues clearly and professionally with contractors and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction inspection experience, preferably with residential subdivision or land development projects.
- Strong understanding of civil construction and municipal infrastructure.
- Experience inspecting grading, earthwork, utilities, roadway construction, and concrete improvements.
- Knowledge of water, sewer, storm drain, gas, electrical, and communications utilities.
- Experience with trenching, bedding, backfill, compaction, and underground utility installation.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, profiles, details, specifications, and approved plans.
- Working knowledge of municipal standards, MAG Specifications and Details, and applicable codes.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and the ability to identify potential issues before they become problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with contractors and municipal representatives.
- Strong documentation, organization, and reporting skills.
- Valid Arizona driver?s license and ability to work in the field throughout the Yuma area.
Preferred Experience
- Residential subdivision inspection experience.
- Experience working directly with municipalities, developers, contractors, or engineering consultants.
- Experience with MAG Standards and local municipal specifications.
- Experience with roadway, utility, grading, and infrastructure improvements.
- Certifications such as ACI, ATTI, ATSSA, SWPPP, or other relevant construction inspection certifications are a plus.
