Nexus Childrenโ€™s Hospital โ€“ Dallas bridges medical and behavioral healthcare through an integrated, interdisciplinary approach designed to support long-term healing and recovery. Our Dallas campus features 60 private patient rooms, ICU step-down care, neurobehavioral and rehabilitation units, therapy gyms, and indoor/outdoor therapeutic activity spaces designed to promote patient engagement and recovery in a supportive environment.

We are currently seeking a Part-Time Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our growing interdisciplinary team and provide psychiatric leadership and care for adolescents with co-occurring psychiatric, behavioral, neurological, and complex medical conditions in an inpatient setting.


Position Summary

The Part-Time Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, and clinical collaboration for adolescent patients admitted to Nexus Childrenโ€™s Hospital โ€“ Dallas. This physician works closely with an interdisciplinary treatment team to support stabilization, behavioral management, and long-term treatment planning for medically and behaviorally complex patients.

The psychiatrist will help guide trauma-informed, patient-centered care while supporting families and collaborating with nursing, therapy, case management, psychology, and medical providers to ensure comprehensive treatment delivery.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments for adolescent patients.
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric and behavioral health conditions in medically complex pediatric and adolescent populations.
  • Develop and oversee individualized psychiatric treatment plans.
  • Provide medication management, monitoring, and adjustments as clinically appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary treatment teams including nursing, therapy, psychology, rehabilitation, case management, and medical providers.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and provide psychiatric recommendations to support patient progress and discharge planning.
  • Support crisis intervention, behavioral stabilization, and de-escalation efforts when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, guardians, and referral sources regarding treatment progress and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and organizational standards.
  • Promote a therapeutic, trauma-informed, and patient-centered treatment environment.
  • Provide on-call coverage as scheduled.

Patient Population

This role primarily supports adolescents with:

  • Mood disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Trauma-related disorders
  • Behavioral dysregulation
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Co-occurring psychiatric and medical conditions
  • Neurological and rehabilitation-related behavioral needs

QualificationsEducation
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) required.
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency required.
  • Completion of a Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship required.
Experience
  • Experience treating children and adolescents in inpatient or acute psychiatric settings preferred.
  • Experience working with medically complex or neurodevelopmental populations strongly preferred.
  • Experience collaborating within interdisciplinary treatment environments preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current unrestricted Texas medical license required (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry required.
  • DEA license required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
