Description
About Central Texas Food Bank
The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. From its headquarters in Austin and its satellite facility in Waco, CTFB serves a 21-county region on a mission to increase food access by providing nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through programs, education, and innovative solutions. Through a combination of direct service programs and a network of approximately 250 nonprofit community partners, CTFB supports over 612,000 food-insecure individuals annually. We have a community-focused culture that values Service, Integrity, Dignity, Collaboration and Innovation.
Position Overview
The Director of Marketing + Communications (DMC) leads the Central Texas Food Bank's integrated Marketing + Communications Department by translating the organization's strategic priorities into coordinated communications, marketing, and creative initiatives that strengthen the organization's reputation, build public trust, and inspire action. The DMC ensures Communications, Marketing, Creative Services, and Digital Content operate as one integrated team, delivering a consistent organizational voice and brand experience across all audiences and channels.
Key Responsibilities
  • Brand Leadership: Translate the organization's voice, vision, and strategic priorities into consistent messaging, executive communications, brand governance, and public-facing communications. Ensure CTFB's voice, messaging, and visual identity are consistently represented across all audiences and communication channels.
  • Department Leadership & Integration: Lead the Marketing + Communications Department by establishing priorities, developing team members, managing performance, fostering collaboration, and ensuring Communications, Marketing, Creative Services, and Digital Content operate as one integrated function.
  • Marketing & Communications Planning: Develop, execute, and evaluate annual marketing and communications plans that align with organizational priorities. Establish processes that prioritize department resources, coordinate integrated campaigns, and ensure consistent messaging across organizational initiatives.
  • Media Relations & Crisis Communications: Lead proactive media relations and, in partnership with the CEO, oversee crisis communications planning to strengthen the organization's reputation, increase public awareness, and ensure timely, accurate communication during routine and emergency situations.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with executive leadership and departments across the organization to align communications and marketing efforts with strategic initiatives, organizational priorities, fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement.
  • Budget & Vendor Management: Develop and manage the department budget while overseeing agency, consultant, and vendor relationships to ensure quality, fiscal responsibility, and alignment with organizational expectations.
  • Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement: Establish department performance measures, evaluate marketing and communications effectiveness, and use data and insights to continuously improve strategies, operations, and organizational impact.
  • Organizational Alignment: Model and reinforce the Central Texas Food Bank's values of Service, Integrity, Dignity, Collaboration, and Innovation while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Other: Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships
The Director of Marketing + Communications reports to the President + CEO. The Director is a member of a five-person team with three direct reports. The DMC is highly visible internally and externally, liaising with vendors, media, elected officials, donors, and internal team members. As a representative of the Office of the CEO, building and maintaining collaborative and meaningful relationships is a core component of this position, as is the ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.
Requirements
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, including responsibility for integrated communications, brand management, media relations, and organizational communications.
  • Minimum of five (5) years leading teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and developing high-performing professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience translating organizational priorities into integrated marketing and communications plans that advance strategic objectives and organizational reputation.
  • Experience serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, including executive communications, public messaging, media relations, crisis communications, and brand stewardship.
  • Strong understanding of integrated marketing, communications, digital strategy, brand management, audience engagement, analytics, and performance measurement.
  • Experience managing departmental budgets, agency and vendor relationships, contracts, and cross-functional projects from planning through execution.
  • Exceptional leadership, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple initiatives, and lead teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Associated Press (AP) style, executive-level writing, editing, and presentation development.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with executive leadership, team members, volunteers, donors, community partners, elected officials, media representatives, and other key stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with digital communications platforms, website content management systems, project management software, Microsoft Office, and marketing technologies.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion, with the ability to represent CTFB and advise executive leadership on sensitive communications and organizational issues.
  • Commitment to CTFB's mission, vision, values, and culture, with the ability to foster collaboration and build relationships across diverse communities.

Working Conditions
  • Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., there may be occasions this role may be required to work on weekends, evenings or during emergency response. There should be an understanding that media rarely pauses especially during high-profile events.
