    This role reports to the Global Head of Technology and AI Risk and is responsible for delivering risk oversight of AI (including relevant data and model-related risks). This Associate oversees, reviews and assesses risks, processes and controls against Capital Group's (CG) AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF), industry best practice, risk frameworks, and regulatory expectations. This Associate will work closely with first line partners to implement the AI RMF, providing subject matter expertise and technical guidance to technology/ business process and control owners, and independently monitor implementation progress. The role requires flexibility in a constantly changing environment and under shifting priorities, and an ability to multi-task and independently prioritize, and strength in written and verbal communication, conflict resolution, and influencing.

    Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

    Expertise

    • Advanced knowledge of AI-specific risk management principles, Responsible AI practices, and theories to drive the design, enhancement, and adoption of the firm's AI Risk Management Framework.

    • Strong working knowledge of Agentic/GenAI/ML fundamentals, risk and model evaluation, and evolving AI security landscape.

    • Continuously guide the evolution and improvement of CG's processes and controls to adapt to the evolving or emerging AI risk landscape and risk management best practices.

    • Leverages subject matter expertise on specialized topics (e.g., model risk, data design and security, technology risk, architectural solutions, AI engineering principles, technology infrastructure etc.) to influence risk mitigation strategies and risk framework enhancements.

    Execution:

    • Implement and enhance firm's AI Risk Management Framework to ensure effective identification, risk assessment and quantification, communication, and management of AI risk.

    • Proactively identify and escalate risks/ gaps, communicate findings, and recommend enhancements to strengthen risk posture and regulatory compliance.

    • Oversee, review and challenge management and reporting of Risk and Control Issues related to AI.

    • Prepare risk reporting for governance forums and senior leadership, on the state of the risk and control environment, articulating against risk appetite, and demonstrating ability to influence strategic executive-level strategic decision-making and translating risk insights into business strategies.

    • Review and challenge relevant first line policies, standards, and procedures against regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

    • Proactively identify opportunities for first- and second-line risk partnership on key risk initiatives, and Technology, or and Security strategies.

    Drives Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Become the trusted risk partner for first line leadership, product managers, technology and business process and control owners, and other stakeholders such as Legal and Compliance.

    • Foster collaboration with cross-functional risk teams, including Technology, Security, Operational and Third-Party Risk teams.

    • Develop data risk insights through innovative use of AI capabilities/ tools - be a champion of AI innovation in the team, advocating a data-led approach to risk management.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • You possess expert knowledge of risk management frameworks and industry standards (e.g. NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001) and their practical application in a technical environment.

    • You have strong technical and applied knowledge of:

      • Data design and controls

      • AI data risk governance

      • Security risk management

      • AI model and system lifecycle

      • AI failure modes and risk characteristics

      • Responsible AI practices.

    • You are familiar with Agentic AI workflows

    • You have experience assessing risks related to model performance, bias, explainability, data quality, third-party AI, and adversarial threats.

    • You have demonstrable experience acting as technical expert reference for associates and leadership.

    • You have a technical and operational understanding of financial services regulations globally,

    • A Bachelor's degree in AI, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is highly desirable, supported by active and relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA or other AI-specific certifications.

    Southern California Base Salary Range: $159,354-$254,966New York Base Salary Range: $168,924-$270,278

    In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
