Job Description - AI Transformation Engineer (FDE)
Location: Bay Area - minimum 3 days/week

About the Role
Cisco's test engineering organization is transitioning away from traditional/legacy automation practices toward a fully AI-native way of working. The team has strong domain expertise and a clear vision for where they want to go - what they need is a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) whose skills complement theirs: someone who can take their ideas and vision and actually build and implement the AI-native solution alongside them.
This is a hands-on engineering role. The engineer needs to do real implementation work - laying down the right processes and tooling so the pipeline is AI-native from the ground up - while working side-by-side with Cisco's domain experts
Cisco brings the domain depth; this person brings the AI-native engineering depth to help realize the transformation, spot blind spots, and unblock bottlenecks the team runs into along the way.
Responsibilities
Work as an embedded, complementary partner to Cisco's domain experts - not a replacement for them, and not purely an advisor on the sidelines.
Translate the team's transformation vision into concrete, implemented solutions using agentic AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar).
Design and build the right process and tooling foundation so the test/regression pipeline is AI-native from the start, rather than retrofitted later.
Identify blind spots and bottlenecks in the team's AI-native transition and help resolve them hands-on.
Consolidate fragmented, individual environments into a centralized, CI/CD-integrated pipeline.
Modernize the regression testing approach for an AI-native workflow (moving away from the legacy Python-centric model).
Help the org reduce cycle time and headcount required per work item.
Required Qualifications
Deep, hands-on expertise building with agentic AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent) in real production settings - able to both use these tools and design the process/tooling around them.
Comfortable operating as a Forward Deployed Engineer: implementing solutions directly, not just recommending them.
Strong understanding of test automation, CI/CD, and regression testing practices.
Networking-domain testing/automation experience is a strong plus.
Excellent communication skills - able to work side-by-side with engineers coming from a traditional/legacy background and complement their domain expertise rather than override it.
Track record of driving or building AI-native transformation initiatives strongly preferred.
Not a Fit
Candidates whose core strength is traditional/legacy test automation coding without strong, current AI-agent orientation.
Candidates looking for a pure advisory/consulting role with no hands-on implementation.
Candidates who would need significant hand-holding rather than being able to independently build and guide.

This is a hybrid role: hands-on implementation (FDE-style) plus guidance - not one or the other. Frame submissions accordingly.
Networking test/automation background is a strong differentiator - flag it clearly if present.
