Job description

Title: Substitute Bus Driver
(Bus Driver/Substitute/Full-time Substitute)
Qualifications: 1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  1. Must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and school bus certificate, and a satisfactory driving record.
  2. Must meet Physical Performance Requirements.
  3. Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Duties/Performance
  1. Drives a school bus over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and law related to pupil transportation in the District and State;
  2. transports students to and from school, special events, and field trips.
  3. Picks up and discharges students, under varying weather conditions, at established bus stops;
  4. reports incidents which affect the safety of students.
  5. Maintains bus in a safe operating Condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections and driver maintenance including cleaning windows, mirrors, and bus interior and exterior;
  6. checks and maintains fuel, oil and water levels, check brakes, brake lights, and doors;
  7. reports mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  8. Maintains order and discipline among students on bus following District policies and procedures regarding disciplining of students and contact with school officials, parents, and the public;
  9. interacts with parents regarding questions, concerns, and disputes.
  10. Performs emergency bus evacuation drills as required by Kentucky Administration Regulations.
  11. Transports physically handicapped and mentally handicapped children to and from designated locations;
  12. lifts and secures wheel chairs; assists in the loading and unloading of handicapped children as necessary.
  13. Observes applicable local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  14. Maintains records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven, number of children transported, and other related matters;
  15. prepares student conduct, incident, and accident reports.
  16. Attends First aid safety, preventive emergency, discipline hearings, meetings, and all designated in service days as contracted.
  17. Supervises the seating of pupils on the bus and ensures that the seating capability of the bus is utilized;
  18. notifies the route Supervisor immediately if the bus is overloaded after following this procedure.
  19. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Transportation, Assistant Transportation Director, or the Superintendent.

Term of Service Salary and workdays/jobs to be established by the Board.
