Job description

ELOS Environmental, an Aventia Company (ELOS) is seeking a GIS Lead to assist a multidisciplinary team of accomplished GIS professionals and environmental scientists including biologists, ecologists, archaeologists, and project managers on a variety of projects. The GIS Lead is responsible for processing and managing spatial and tabular data in a variety of formats (.gdb, .shp, .kmz, .dwg (AutoCAD), Trimble, field notes, etc.). The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with staff to create maps, exhibits, and figures to support technical reports.

Education and Training:

Bachelor's or Master's in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or related discipline.

7+ years of GIS experience with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role.

Experience/Desired Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and geodatabase management.
  • Experience with spatial modeling, environmental analysis, and data visualization.
  • Experience with remote sensing, LiDAR, and UAV-derived data is a plus.
  • Experience with scripting for automation (e.g., Python/ArcPy, ModelBuilder) and web GIS (e.g., JavaScript API, ArcGIS Experience Builder).
  • Ability to write compelling technical proposals and deliver client presentations.
  • Understanding of contracting, scoping, and budgeting for GIS work.
  • Strong grasp of market trends and client needs in the environmental sector (e.g., ESG, compliance mapping, permitting workflows).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - able to convey complex spatial ideas to non-GIS professionals.
  • Experience managing or mentoring teams, leading cross-functional collaboration.
  • Comfortable working with executive stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and technical staff.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and permitting (e.g., NEPA, CEQA, FERC, EPA, USACE).
  • Experience supporting environmental projects: site assessments, biological resources, environmental impact studies, etc.
  • Proven success in developing and managing GIS projects in environmental consulting or related fields is a plus.

Responsibilities:

· Create spatial data from multiple non-spatial sources and formats using digitization and georeferencing techniques demonstrating a firm understanding of geographic coordinate systems, datums, and projections.

· Integrate new data into existing geodatabases and convert attributes between multiple domain schemas.

· Utilize GIS applications to examine the locations, attributes, and relationships of features in spatial data through overlay and other analytical techniques.

· Configure and troubleshoot various GPS devices and mobile data collection applications.

· Utilize GIS applications to perform advanced spatial analysis or data conversion or manipulation. Use applications and scripts to create automated geoprocessing workflows.

· Work with GIS-related software and programs to create and maintain a database and/or maps that can be combined to create geographically correlated data.

· Develop Web Maps/Apps/Dashboards for use on ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Portal in conjunction with Collector and Survey123.

Salary is commensurate with experience. For more information about ELOS, visit elosenv.com.
