JOB TITLE: Mechanical Project Engineer
REPORTS TO: Director, Mechanical Engineering
JOB STATUS: Full Time
FLSA STATUS: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Project Engineer will play a critical role in the design, organization, deployment, and leadership of baggage handling systems and components. You will collaborate successfully with stakeholders including project managers, principal engineers, engineering designers and design engineers, other engineering disciplines, procurement, and field services to complete baggage handling projects successfully. You will focus on safe, high-quality output, on schedule and on budget.
Our Mechanical Project Engineer would be responsible in part for overall ownership, design, and supervision of a project, based on customer specifications and as-sold information. You would understand the system fully and make design decisions, work with the customer to ensure their needs are fully met, requisitioning all applicable materials, and lead the mechanical engineering team on a project. You will direct the creation of comprehensive, detailed installation and component level drawing packages per customer specifications and field installation team requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Aid in design of custom baggage handling systems using CAD software (2D AutoCAD, 3D Inventor).
  • Perform engineering calculations, such as horsepower and speeds.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as project management, procurement, field services, and other engineering disciplines to ensure mechanical engineering is aligned fully with the organization.
  • Represent the company appropriately during detailed design reviews and other collaborative participation with customers and consultants.
  • Work together with vendors to ensure adherence of design and quality.
  • Lead a team of designers, design engineers, and lead designers.
  • Track the project against schedule, scope, and budget.
  • Create budgets and forecasts for both cost and hours.
  • Identify potential issues, provide efficient solutions, and make decisions when required.
  • Create and maintain equipment manifests and other engineering documentation.
  • Review detailed field installation drawings containing detail for customer approval and field installation ease.
  • Ensure all designs comply with specifications and standards.
  • Lead design reviews and other regular meetings.
  • Provide support during fabrication and construction, both in office and on-site as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Office primarily, with occasional field visits.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent in years of experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in conveyance, construction, or other system-level engineering functions, or relevant project engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of conveyor systems, specifically baggage handling, is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD Software (AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar).
  • Experienced use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Project)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to obtain airport security clearance as needed.
