This role combines extensive travel to customer sites with in-house work, requiring strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage projects from planning through completion.

You join a team-focused organization that invests in your well-being, professional growth, and long-term stability. The company offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with competitive premium sharing, low deductibles, and extensive preventive services covered at 100%. Prescription drugs, outpatient and inpatient services, and many additional healthcare services are supported with robust coverage. You have access to dental and vision plans with generous benefits for exams, frames, lenses, and contact lenses. You can purchase voluntary life insurance to enhance your financial security. The organization supports your future with a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, matching 100% of your contributions up to 3% after one year of service. You are paid on a bi-weekly schedule via direct deposit for convenience and reliability. The culture emphasizes a tight-knit, team-oriented environment with a supportive in-house community and strong collaboration between field and shop personnel. You benefit from a mix of travel and in-house work, access to a dedicated workspace and laptop, and a stable core schedule when not on the road.

    Responsibilities

    • Install, commission, and start up cold, warm, and hot forging presses and related equipment at customer facilities, ensuring accurate and efficient setup.
    • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and low-voltage systems to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
    • Repair forging presses and associated machinery accurately and efficiently, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of components.
    • Make approved modifications to machinery and accessory components, ensuring changes meet performance and safety requirements.
    • Assemble and disassemble machines at customer sites and in the shop, following technical documentation and established procedures.
    • Clean parts and adjacent areas involved in repairs to maintain safe, organized, and professional workspaces.
    • Follow established tool control procedures, including maintaining, organizing, and accounting for all company tools before, during, and after each project.
    • Maintain and use lockout/tagout devices and strictly follow safety procedures when working inside machines or performing repairs.
    • Send, receive, and analyze customer interview sheets to understand equipment condition and requirements prior to service visits.
    • Perform thorough and accurate preventive maintenance on machinery and complete detailed preventive maintenance reports within two weeks of returning from customer sites.
    • Coordinate closely with Sales and Office staff regarding ongoing projects, scheduling, and customer expectations.
    • Obtain approval from the Field Service Supervisor for all purchases related to parts, tools, and project needs.
    • Provide redesign suggestions for accessory components and communicate these recommendations to the engineering team with appropriate approvals.
    • Ensure all necessary parts, tools, documentation, and travel arrangements are prepared prior to each project to support efficient field service execution.
    • Check and verify tools before leaving each customer site to ensure all company tools are accounted for and properly organized upon return to the shop.
    • Accurately pull, review, and highlight assembly and parts drawings, marking items as quoted or potentially needing replacement.
    • Use precise measurement techniques and maintain high accuracy standards when working on all projects.
    • Complete assigned projects thoroughly, on time, and in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards.
    • Refer to machine drawings consistently when working in the shop, at job sites, or when discussing technical issues with customers, and provide updates to supervisors as needed.
    • Follow up with customers after service visits, document results, and ensure any outstanding issues are addressed promptly.
    • Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams to manage expectations, provide status updates, and maintain strong relationships.
    • Attend customer and vendor meetings as needed to support project planning, installation, and service activities.
    • Support in-house technicians as needed, working standard shop hours when not traveling.

    Essential Skills

    • Ability to travel up to approximately 70–80% of the time, primarily during the week, to customer sites for installation and service work.
    • 2–3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical work, preferably involving industrial machinery or heavy equipment.
    • High level of mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working on complex mechanical systems.
    • Proven experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and low-voltage systems.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
    • Experience with field service activities including installation, maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of industrial equipment.
    • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, including working with motors and control systems at a basic level.
    • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices, including proper use of lockout/tagout procedures.
    • High level of customer service and satisfaction, with experience interacting directly with customers in the field.
    • Experience working effectively as part of a team, both in the field and in a shop environment.
    • Strong organizational skills to prepare tools, parts, and documentation prior to travel and projects.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, sales teams, supervisors, and office staff.
    • Comfort using a laptop and basic digital tools for reporting, documentation, and communication.

    Work Environment

This role is primarily field-based, with travel up to approximately 80% of the time due to high demand for installations and servicing of forging presses and related equipment. Travel is typically during the week and involves working at customer plants across various industrial sectors. When not traveling, you work in a modern, temperature-controlled facility that offers a comfortable and professional environment. The in-house schedule generally runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, while core business hours for broader coordination are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You work closely with a tight-knit, team-oriented group that values collaboration and mutual support. The role involves hands-on work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and low-voltage systems, as well as the use of tools, cranes, and industrial equipment in both field and shop settings.
