The Center for Specialty Therapy Clinic provides Nutrition, Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapy in addition to Psychotherapy and Mental Health assessments. We specialize in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Premier HealthCare and the Center for Specialty Therapy clinics offer people with I/DD access to high-quality primary care and specialty outpatient services with doctors and other professionals trained in their unique needs.
This position provides students with the opportunity to learn how health information is managed across the various disciplines and how technology has improved data access and management. Tasks vary from working with paper charts, from documentation protocols/procedures, and tracking from paper inception to electronic upload. Students will increase their understanding of its role in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and the steps involved in health data management. Other tasks include exposure to the administrative side of health information tracking for eligibility/programming and how this specialized population compares to the general non-disabled community. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to advance their knowledge and experience with medical information and technology along with HIPAA and compliance laws. This placement is administrative in nature with no direct/in-person patient contact.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUPERVISION
The intern's schedule will match with the days and times supervisors are on site. Students will complete training in their respective tasks while being observed along the way. Interns will be supervised by the clinics Assistant Supervisor, Office Manager, and Medical receptionist. All will remain available and approachable to students for questions and guidance.
This is an unpaid internship opportunity that is only open to current students. The internship may be able to satisfy course credit if approved by the student's institution of learning.
