The Position: Labourer

Type: Full-time

Reports To: Arborist (ISA or UTT)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Keep the worksite clean and organized by removing fallen tree debris, including branches, leaves, and trunks.
  • Load and unload trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, or feed brush into a woodchipper.
  • Set up tools and equipment for arborists to use.
  • Help arborists assess the health and structural integrity of trees, possibly by assisting with measurements, observations, or gathering data.
  • Perform physically demanding manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Set up barriers or signs to keep the area safe for the crew and the public.
  • Actively support and encourage working safely and supporting a positive team environment.
  • Other duties as required.

Experience and Knowledge Expectations:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license, and Driver's Abstract, with less than 6 demerits.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • Valid First Aid with CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in physically demanding environments.
  • Motivated to learn independently and from team members, with strong time management skills.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Comfortable working in noisy environments with proper PPE.
  • Willingness to work long hours, overtime, and participate in on-call rotations during emergencies.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, including identification and growth habits would be considered an asset.
