REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer; upon hire, this position will work closely with and may receive day-to-day operational supervision from the Chief Operating Officer consistent with organizational needs.

This organization is poised for rapid expansion and leadership in the field.Position Summary:
The Communications Manager manages the day-to-day execution of WomenHeart's communications strategy, amplifying the organization's mission, programs, advocacy efforts, events, and partnerships across external audiences. This role owns WomenHeart's organizational content calendar, website, email communications, social media presence, and digital storytelling efforts. The Communications Manager serves as the organization's primary social media lead, responsible for developing and executing platform-specific strategies, creating engaging content, growing online audiences, fostering community engagement, monitoring trends, and analyzing performance to advance organizational goals.
Working collaboratively across departments, the Communications Manager develops and executes content that engages patients, supporters, healthcare professionals, corporate partners, funders, and other key stakeholders. The position brings in-house responsibilities currently performed by an external communications consultant and works closely with WomenHeart's Strategic Communications Consultant, who provides strategic brand, messaging, and positioning guidance.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Content Strategy and Editorial

• Own the organizational content calendar, coordinating across programs, development, corporate relations, and advocacy so campaigns, awareness moments, and program milestones are sequenced and resourced
• Write, edit, and publish content across WomenHeart's external channels, including web copy, email, social posts, newsletters, blog posts, and program collateral
• Copyedit and proofread outgoing external materials
• Draft select executive thought leadership communications, including CEO remarks, statements, and blog posts, in coordination with the Strategic Communications Consultant
• Maintain editorial workflows that support timely approvals, publication schedules, and organizational priorities.
• Serve as the communications liaison across departments, helping staff translate organizational priorities into clear, audience-focused communications.
• Manage multiple communications projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
• Support communications needs for organizational events, including promotional campaigns, registration communications, onsite materials, and post-event communications.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of WomenHeart's mission.

Digital Communications

• Develop, maintain, and optimize content for WomenHeart.org using the organization's content management system.
• Create, schedule, publish, and monitor social media content across a variety of formats that advances WomenHeart's strategic priorities, programs, advocacy initiatives, fundraising efforts, events, and community engagement.
• With Strategic Communications Consultant, develop integrated, multi-channel communications plans supporting organizational initiatives, including the Science & Leadership Symposium, Champion engagement and recruitment, fundraising

campaigns, advocacy priorities, corporate partnerships, and public awareness efforts.

• Ensure digital content follows best practices for readability, accessibility, SEO, and user engagement.
• Maintain digital asset archives and content libraries for future organizational use.

Media Relations and Public Awareness

• Support media relations activities, including drafting press releases, responding to media inquiries, and coordinating interviews.
• Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to increase WomenHeart's visibility and thought leadership.
• Coordinate external announcements, organizational statements, and public communications as assigned.
• Maintain and augment master national and regional media lists.

Storytelling and Program Communications

• Collaborate with program staff to elevate program milestones, research, advocacy initiatives, and organizational impact across communications channels.
• Identify, develop, and publish Champion and patient stories while ensuring appropriate consent, privacy, and sensitivity when sharing personal health experiences.
• Develop sponsor, partner, and funder recognition stories that accurately reflect their support and impact.
• Maintain a library of stories, testimonials, photography, program outcomes, and impact data for use across communications, fundraising, advocacy, and grant reporting.
• Track and document communications metrics required for grant reporting and provide data to program and development staff.

Brand and Message Consistency

• Ensure consistent messaging, voice, tone, and visual identity across all external communications.
• Apply WomenHeart's brand standards, including logo usage, typography, color palette, and editorial style.
• Partner with the Strategic Communications Consultant to implement organizational brand and messaging guidance.
• Maintain brand templates, communications resources, and shared asset libraries.
• Manage co-branding requirements with corporate sponsors, coalition partners, and other external organizations.
• Produce simple graphic assets using Canva or similar tools and coordinate external designers, photographers, videographers, writers, printers, and other communications vendors.
• Ensure messaging consistency across all external channels

Analytics and Continuous Improvement

• • Track, analyze, and report communications performance across website, email, social media, and digital campaigns.
  • Develop regular communications dashboards and provide recommendations to improve audience engagement and campaign effectiveness.
  • Monitor emerging communications trends, technologies, and best practices to strengthen organizational communications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, digital engagement, or public relations.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences, from patient-facing communications to corporate partners and funders.
• Demonstrated experience directly managing and implementing social media strategies
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated, cross-channel communications campaigns with measurable results.
• Hands-on experience managing digital communications across email marketing platforms, content management systems, and social media channels.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify communications opportunities, and independently manage projects from concept through execution.
• Excellent judgment and attention to detail, particularly when communicating about sensitive health topics and patient experiences.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing as part of a collaborative remote team.
• Working proficiency in Canva or similar design tools.
• Commitment to advancing women's cardiovascular health and patient-centered advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, patient advocacy, or public health communications.
• Familiarity with EveryAction/Bonterra or a comparable nonprofit CRM.
• Experience with Google Analytics (GA4), SEO, and website performance reporting.
• Experience supporting media relations or public relations initiatives.
• Experience producing or tracking grant-funded communications deliverables.
• Experience using social media management and analytics tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive communications best practices.
• Experience coordinating communications for conferences, fundraising campaigns, advocacy initiatives, or national awareness campaigns.
• Experience managing communications vendors or freelancers.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar creative software.
