Job description

ResponsibilitiesThe Project Engineer is responsible for leading injection molding projects from customer RFQ through commercial production. This position serves as the primary technical liaison between customers, suppliers, toolmakers, and internal cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet customer quality expectations. The Project Engineer proactively identifies risks, develops solutions, and drives projects to successful completion.Coordinate and lead project teams, utilizing standard project management processes of multi-phase project timelines, tracking deliverables from concept to launch.Provide a single point of contact for the customer and WPI management team providing project leadership during the development efforts to create a seamless customer experiencePresent project updates regularly to management, highlighting risks, critical paths, and mitigation plans.Oversee compilation of validation protocols and final PPAP packages.Review customer RFQs, 3D CAD files, and technical drawings.Identify manufacturing risks and cost drivers using DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis.Provide accurate technical inputs for tool construction and part cost estimates.Manage external tool shops to ensure mold designs meet company and customer standards.Track tooling build timelines and manages engineering changes (ECOs).Demonstrates initiative and sound engineering judgment to resolve technical challenges and project obstacles.Ensure sufficient resources are identified and allocated to the program from both WPI and the customer perspectiveIdentify and monitor overall program costs, timing, and deliverables to ensure key milestones are achievedParticipate in business development issues such as supply agreements, long-term agreements, costreduction requests, cost sharing requests, pricing negotiations, account reviews, etc.Participate in cost control and profitability decisions through interaction with appropriate manufacturing groups, accounting and salesCoordinate mold sampling activities and support process qualification through successful production validationWork closely with Manufacturing, Tool Room, Quality, Purchasing, Customer Services, Sales and Production to ensure successful project executionOther duties as assignedQualifications - Education & ExperienceRequired: Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical fieldRequired: Minimum of four years of engineering or project management experience in a manufacturing environmentRequired: management and cross-functional team experience. PMP or PMI certification a plusPreferred: Experience managing injection molding projects from quotation through production launchPreferred: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)Preferred: Experience with ERP systems such as DELMIAWorks (formerly IQMS)Qualifications - Skills & CompetenciesProven ability to motivate and direct diverse teams and hold technical stakeholders accountable without direct authorityUnderstanding of the product development process, associated terminology, and quality system requirementsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, sales, and customersExceptional verbal and written communication skills for managing customer and vendor relationships.Understanding of financial statements and accounting practices and terminology at a project levelStrong analytical, problem-solving skills, and able to make technical recommendationsExercises independent judgmentAbility to identify problems and develop and implement actions plans to resolve them and evaluate engineering alternatives.Ability to motivate and influence people to achieve customer satisfactionAbility to work independently as well as part of a teamExcellent organizational skills and determine prioritiesAbility to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyStrong negotiation skillsAbility to maintain complete and accurate project documentation in accordance with company procedures.Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressureQualifications – Physical DemandsWork is performed in both an office environment and an active manufacturing facility where exposure to machinery, noise, moving equipment, heat, and industrial chemicals may occur.
