Position Summary:
The Produce Manager is responsible for performing oversight functions within Western Market Nourish regarding all produce sections. This position is responsible for ensuring that a safe, attractive environment is available forcustomers visiting the produce department. This position will work closely with the general manager, assistant department managers and buyers; they may work directly with vendors and/or farmers instead of employing purchasers. The Produce Manager also performs a number of managerial duties, such as hiring and training staff, providing supervision and guidance, evaluating employee performance regularly and handling discipline issues as they arise. This is a supervisory position.
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities:
  • Oversee that all tasks related to the produce department are done thoroughly, completely and in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize and delegate tasks related to produce department
  • Place produce orders, Receive and check produce orders, submit invoices, and manage credits/returns.
  • Coordinate with Upper Management to produce purchase orders for department equipment, supplies and service.
  • Maintenance of Produce Department equipment
  • Safely operate cardboard bailer and garbage compactor.
  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness in all production and stock areas.
  • Ensure the proper rotation of inventory, both on the sales floor/displays and in backstock.
  • Ensure that all products requiring ice are properly chilled.
  • Daily completion of required department tasks, safety, and quality lists as assigned.
  • Request product signage as needed.
  • Train Produce Team members.
  • Create Produce Department personnel schedules.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
  • Other Duties amp; Responsibilities:
  • Answer department phone calls and take messages.
  • Assist customers in all Departments as needed.
  • Follow-up on Customer Requests as delegated.
  • Water indoor plants as needed.
  • Delivery and pick-up of orders.

Special Considerations:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product. Exposure cold temperatures while working in coolers and freezers;
  • Some outdoor work is required; exposure to seasonal Michigan weather conditions while working
  • Language Skills: intermediate.
  • Mathematical Skills: intermediate.
  • Reasoning Ability: high.
  • Equipment used: forklift; Hobart scales; price gun; price scanner; pallet jack; knives; floor cleaning machine; cardboard baler.
  • Computer skills: Google Drive, Microsoft Suite; email
Hours per Week: 45-50
