General Requirements: All CVTs work under the general supervision of a Cardiology physician, or other medical officers. The technologist may be required to devise non-standard positioning or equipment set-ups. AHA BLS & ACLS

Specific Requirements: With experience working in cardiac catheterization and or electrophysiology (EP) labs. Must have certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a registered, Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). Can scrub in and provide direct support to cardiac catheterization procedures including but not limited to coronary and peripheral angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, stenting, angioplasty, atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound, pacemaker and defibrillator insertion, and EP studies and ablation procedures. Must have experience preparing patients for sterile procedures, including prepping and draping. Must be able to manage and troubleshoot hemodynamic monitoring systems, ECG and defibrillator systems, fluoroscopic X-Ray equipment, and data storage systems. Must be able to circulate and monitor cases, entering data into Mac lab. Provide support for infection control, radiation safety monitoring, supply management and ordering, and case scheduling. Other duties within the scope of CVT practice as assigned. Appropriate dress, lab coat and/or scrubs. ID badge must be worn at all times while on station. Maintains courteous customer service skills toward patients, visitor and staff. Secures patient's confidence and cooperation. Operates ionizing and/or sealed source radiation equipment. Calculates and maintain records of therapeutic and cumulative doses. Receives patients by checking name, social security number or date of birth and explaining the procedures to be performed per the request and assessment. Archiving and documentation of procedure and other pertinent information. Image annotation, evaluation, labeling and image quality for optimal demonstration of anatomic region, pathology and exam completeness for timely interpretation. Exam protocol, including patient positioning and image display. Evaluation of requisition or medical record. Responsible for medical equipment attached to patients during the radiographic procedures. Provide for patient safety, comfort, and modesty. Practice standard precautions assures the cleanliness of the room, and re-stocks supply cabinet at the end of the tour. Use proper body mechanics and/or mechanical transfer devices when assisting patients. Recognize need for prompt medical attention and administer emergency care. Maintain confidentiality of patient's information. Take appropriate precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff. Check equipment for working conditions prior to patient's examination. Notifies the supervisor of any equipment problems. Greet patients arriving in the department and may assists in scheduling appointment, verifying appointment, and or answering the phone and providing general information as needed or requested. Calls down scheduled in-patients for examination. Remains on duty until relieved by the next shift of employees. Report for duty on time or call your supervisor to report absence/tardiness no later than one hour before the beginning of the tour scheduled. Selects technical factors and appropriate protocols using established criteria. CVTs may be asked to take call for 24/7 coverage in the event of off-duty urgent cases. On-call could be required and would have 5 minutes to respond to call and 30 minutes to be on-site.
