JOB OPENING FOR A

Tourism Director

WITH THE

WASHINGTON COUNTY TOURISM DEPARTMENT

$128,091.60 ANNUALLY / FULL TIME WITH BENEFITS

Washington County is seeking an accomplished, creative, and collaborative Director of Tourism to lead the County's tourism strategy and elevate its presence as a premier visitor destination. This is a high-impact executive leadership opportunity for someone who knows how to turn a destination's strengths into compelling stories, successful partnerships, measurable marketing results, and memorable visitor experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shape destination strategy. Develop short- and long-range plans, translate priorities into actionable strategies, and advise County leadership on tourism opportunities, policies, goals, and emerging needs.
  • Lead marketing and destination promotion. Oversee marketing plans, advertising campaigns, public relations, promotional materials, media efforts, social media, and the County's broader tourism presence.
  • Build powerful partnerships. Collaborate with businesses, nonprofit organizations, community groups, tourism industry partners, and local, state, and regional organizations to expand visitor and convention opportunities.
  • Develop convention and travel business. Cultivate relationships with prospective convention clients, travel professionals, media representatives, meeting planners, and other industry partners, including through familiarization tours and industry events.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team. Set priorities, delegate assignments, oversee projects, evaluate performance, participate in recruitment, and provide professional development for departmental staff.
  • Manage public resources responsibly. Develop and oversee the departmental budget, maintain appropriate fiscal controls, manage transient room tax funds, and pursue grant and funding opportunities.
  • Represent Washington County. Present to the Tourism Tax Advisory Board and Board of County Commissioners, participate in public meetings, serve on committees and boards, and represent the County at domestic and international travel, trade, and consumer shows.
  • Drive innovation and results. Identify new and emerging markets, evaluate the impact of marketing initiatives, oversee creative production and contracts, and strengthen the County's online and social media presence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in convention and/or hospitality management, sales and marketing, business administration, public administration, or a related field;
  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in convention and/or hospitality management with sales and marketing responsibilities or hospitality programming;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
