Landlord Engagement Worker

Location: In office 3 days/week; in community in York Region
Salary: 58,000 annually                                                                    
Position Type: Full-time, permanent                                                        Hours: 37.5 hours per week


Position Overview

WCYR is seeking a relationship-focused and resourceful Landlord Engagement Worker to expand safe and sustainable rental housing opportunities for women, mothers, and families experiencing housing instability.

The Landlord Engagement Worker will build partnerships with homeowners, private landlords, property managers, and housing providers who are willing to rent to clients supported by our organization. The successful candidate will help landlords understand our programs, address concerns, identify suitable rental opportunities, and develop partnerships that benefit both tenants and housing providers.

The position will also provide up to six months of post-placement support to landlords and tenants. This support will focus on strengthening landlord-tenant relationships, proactively identifying concerns, mediating challenges, and reducing the risk of rent arrears, tenancy breakdown, and eviction.


Key Responsibilities

Landlord Engagement and Partnership Development

  • Direct relationship building with homeowners, private landlords, property managers, real estate professionals, and housing providers.
  • Promote the benefits of partnering with WCYR and renting to women, mothers, and families supported by our programs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of landlord partners, available rental units, partnership opportunities, and housing outcomes.
  • Develop long-term relationships with landlords who may provide current or future rental opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at housing tables, community meetings, landlord associations, and related events.

Housing Matching and Tenancy Support

  • Work collaboratively to understand household needs, affordability, location preferences, accessibility requirements, and readiness for tenancy.
  • Match eligible clients with appropriate rental opportunities.
  • Support communication between prospective tenants and landlords during the application, viewing, and lease-signing process.
  • Provide regular follow-up support to both the landlord and tenant for up to six months after move-in.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social services, housing, community development, property management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in housing stability, landlord engagement, property management,
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with landlords, homeowners, businesses, and community partners.
  • Experience supporting women and families experiencing housing instability, poverty, violence, discrimination, or other barriers is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario’s Residential Tenancies Act, housing systems, tenant rights and responsibilities, and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, networking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with internal staff and community partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, databases, and electronic case-management systems.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle may be required.
