About the Company

At Vortex Systems, we pride ourselves on our extensive range of specialized test equipment and control systems, each designed to meet the rigorous demands of aerospace and engineering industries. Our specialties encompass a variety of advanced systems all underpinned by our expertly developed, user friendly LabVIEW software. Whether you need precise calibration procedures, intricate motor power calculations, or comprehensive interfacing with analog or digital hardware circuitry, our technical solutions are engineered to enhance efficiency and accuracy across all your testing requirements.

About the Role

The Fabricator at Vortex Systems is responsible for building, wiring, modifying, and quality-checking low-voltage electrical and instrumentation assemblies used in 19-inch chassis and data system consoles. This role requires the ability to read schematics, mount and wire components, fabricate harnesses and cables, solder and crimp connections, label wiring properly, support component selection and ordering, and document quality checks. The position also supports panel design or modification, basic shipping preparation, and proper records management while applying knowledge of wire types, insulation ratings, shielding techniques, aircraft connectors, and instrumentation wiring practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to follow/understand electrical schematics and layout signal and instrumentation components for a 19inch chassis.
  • Does not typically deal with 115vac but may install terminal blocks and fuses for AC single phase components in the 19in chassis.
  • Mounting electrical components on 19in panels that are installed in data system consoles.
  • Proficient with use of soldering iron, desoldering methods, heat gun, shrink tubing, sleeving, various hand tools for wire preparation.
  • Familiarity with hand crimping tools, various lug sizes, pin insertion/extraction tools for aircraft connectors.
  • Selection and ordering of electrical switches.
  • Able to install wires onto all the above components and label them properly using shrink labels or other means provided.
  • Ability to design or modify Aluminum panels using online software.
  • Ability to fabricate harnesses/cables from schematics.
  • Able to checkout a harness for quality control and document that it has been done.
  • Familiarity with design/purchasing/records folders and what goes in each one.
  • Knows how to weigh items for shipping, can use the label lamination machine, familiar with shipping tape roller for closing up boxes.
  • Familiar with many types of wire gages, insulation ratings, color codes for low voltage wires.
  • Familiar with DIP wire wrap tools and chip pin labels.
  • Knowledge of shielding techniques for instrumentation.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience fabricating, wiring, and assembling low-voltage electrical or instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout documentation.
  • Experience working with 19-inch chassis, panels, data system consoles, harnesses, or cable assemblies preferred.
  • Proficient with soldering, desoldering, heat guns, shrink tubing, sleeving, wire preparation, and common hand tools.
  • Familiarity with hand crimping tools, lug sizes, pin insertion/extraction tools, and aircraft-style connectors.
  • Knowledge of wire gauges, insulation ratings, color codes, shielding techniques, and low-voltage wiring practices.
  • Ability to fabricate, inspect, troubleshoot, and document harnesses and cables for quality control.
  • Experience mounting and wiring terminal blocks, switches, relays, fuses, and instrumentation components.
  • Ability to properly label wires and components using shrink labels or other approved labeling methods.
  • Familiarity with basic component selection, purchasing, design records, and documentation folders.
  • Experience with aluminum panel layout, design, or modification is a plus.
  • Basic shipping preparation skills, including weighing items, labeling, laminating, and packaging, are helpful.

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and component layout instructions.
  • Hands-on experience wiring, assembling, and fabricating low-voltage electrical or instrumentation systems.
  • Proficiency with soldering, desoldering, heat guns, shrink tubing, sleeving, and wire preparation tools.
  • Experience fabricating, wiring, labeling, and inspecting harnesses and cable assemblies.
  • Familiarity with crimping tools, lugs, terminal blocks, relays, fuses, switches, and aircraft-style connectors.
  • Ability to mount and wire electrical components in 19-inch chassis, panels, or data system consoles.
  • Knowledge of wire gauges, insulation ratings, wire color codes, and shielding techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic quality checks and document completed work accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail in wiring, labeling, assembly, and documentation.
  • Ability to use common hand tools and follow established build, purchasing, and records procedures.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with 19-inch chassis, data system consoles, instrumentation panels, or similar electrical assemblies.
  • Familiarity with aircraft-style connectors, pin insertion/extraction tools, and related wiring practices.
  • Experience selecting or ordering low-voltage electrical components, including switches, terminal blocks, relays, fuses, and related parts.
  • Ability to design, modify, or lay out aluminum panels using online or computer-based design tools.
