Why our team chose Vision Specialists
We're not a typical eye doctor's office — and we don't want typical technicians. We built Vision Specialists
around one idea: eye care should be simple, modern, and something patients actually look forward to. No
puffs of air. No dilation drops when we can avoid them. Monitor-guided exams that let patients see their
own retinal images on a big screen while the doctor explains what's happening.
That approach only works when the tech in the pre-exam room is sharp, calm, and genuinely great with
people. That's the role we're hiring for at our Council Bluffs office.
What you'll do
You'll run the pre-exam workup that sets the doctor up for a fast, thorough visit — and you'll be the first
person a patient meets after they check in.
• Perform Optos ultra-widefield retinal imaging
• Run OCT scans for retinal, optic nerve, and macular imaging
• Perform visual field testing (Humphrey) for glaucoma and neuro screening
• Take iCare tonometry readings — no more air-puff test
• Complete auto-refraction, lensometry, and pretesting
• Take patient history, medication reconciliation, and chief complaint
• Chart in RevolutionEHR and prep the room for the doctor
• Assist with contact lens insertion/removal training as needed
• Keep exam lanes stocked, clean, and running on time
• Ensure smooth patient-to-OD exchange with a focus on efficiency and accuracy
What we're looking for
• 1–4 years of hands-on experience as an optometric or ophthalmic technician (ophthalmology,
optometry, or LASIK/refractive practice all count)
• Comfortable operating diagnostic equipment — Optos, OCT, visual field, and tonometer experience is a
big plus
• Strong RevolutionEHR, Crystal PM, or comparable EHR charting skills
• Confident with patients: kids, retirees, first-time contact lens wearers — you meet each person where
they are
• Reliable, punctual, and steady under a full schedule
• High school diploma or equivalent
Compensation & Benefits
• $20/hour — competitive with the Omaha metro market for the role
• PTO + separately awarded sick leave + paid holidays
• 401(k) retirement plan
• No weekends. No evenings. Real work-life balance in a healthcare setting
• Work alongside a supportive team of optometrists, opticians, and vision consultants
