Respiratory Therapy Clinical Instructor

This position requires the ability to teach, counsel, supervise, evaluate, and maintain records of students in the clinical portion of the Respiratory Therapy Program. Must have an excellent understanding of respiratory anatomy and physiology, pathology, and clinical procedures. Must function as a role model in the clinical setting demonstrating a high degree of professionalism.

Mastery of Subject Matter: Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of respiratory therapy. Connect the subject matter with related fields. Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, and workshops. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.

Teaching Performance: Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Employ available instructional technology, i.e., the internet, telecourses, and interactive technology when appropriate. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives. Incorporate core competencies into curriculum.

Evaluation of Student Learning: Establish meaningful student learning outcomes for courses and programs. Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning. Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances. Participate in inter-rater reliability training. Maintain confidentiality of student information. Substitute for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence. Exercise stewardship of college facilities and materials. Record and provide attendance data in accordance with the College Policies and Procedures.

Special Assignments: May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications: Experience in clinical practice. National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Current unencumbered license from the Virginia State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Therapist.

Additional Considerations: Membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC). Current American Heart Association (AHA) certification for Basic Life support (BLS). Associate Degree (or higher) in Respiratory Therapy from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (COARC) accredited program.
