Job description

Why This Role Matters

As a canvasser, your work directly empowers voters, amplifies voices that are often underrepresented, and strengthens movements for justice and equity across Arizona. By engaging people where they live, work, and gather, you help remove barriers to participation and ensure that every community member has the opportunity to be heard. This role is essential to building long-term power, protecting democracy, and driving meaningful change.

Position Overview

We are seeking community-minded, people-centered individuals to join our field team as Canvassers. This role focuses on building authentic connections, informing and activating voters, and achieving field goals that strengthen civic engagement. Canvassers work closely with a Field Team Lead and collaborate with a team of peers daily.

This position requires comfort with being active throughout the day—walking, standing, and engaging with community members in indoor and outdoor settings and across various weather conditions.

Key Outcomes

The success of this role is measured by the following outcomes:

  • Voter Engagement Impact: Effectively engage community members through door-to-door conversations, voter education, and registration efforts.

  • Goal Achievement: Consistently meet daily/weekly campaign metrics, including contacts, conversations, and registrations.

  • Accurate Reporting: Maintain clear, timely, and accurate data entry to reflect daily progress and inform strategic decision-making.

  • Team Collaboration: Contribute to a positive, supportive team environment by working collaboratively, participating in check-ins, and assisting peers when needed.

  • Community Trust: Build respectful, culturally competent relationships with voters across lines of difference, especially communities of color, young voters, and first-time voters.

Core Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular team check-ins, training sessions, and skill-building activities.

  • Engage voters through door-to-door outreach and at high-traffic locations to register voters and provide education.

  • Track daily interactions and submit accurate progress reports to the Field Team Lead.

  • Identify and recruit potential volunteers or future canvass team members.

  • Communicate real-time observations or issues to the Field Team Lead.

  • Uphold a positive, team-oriented culture and support peers in meeting shared goals.

  • Adapt to shifting priorities and timelines within the campaign cycle.

  • Perform additional field-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

We encourage individuals with diverse lived experiences—including those new to political work—to apply. You do not need campaign experience to be successful in this role.

Required

  • Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and confidently with community members.

  • Comfort working toward goals in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including emotional intelligence and cultural humility.

  • Ability to work well on a team and independently.

  • Access to a mobile phone and internet connection for reporting and communication.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the day in various weather conditions.

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience in community engagement, customer service, or teamwork-based roles.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills—Spanish fluency is a plus.

  • Reliable transportation (public transit, carpooling, walking, rideshare, etc.).

  • Adaptability, creativity, and a solutions-focused mindset.

What We Value
  • Community-centered leadership

  • Accountability to goals and outcomes

  • Inclusivity and cultural competency

  • Willingness to grow, be coached, and build new skills

  • Commitment to social justice and equity
