About the Facility - New Hampshire Veterans Home
For over 130 years, the New Hampshire Veterans Home has been a Home and a health resource for Granite State armed forces veterans. Established in 1890 as the Soldier's Home for Civil War Veterans, it has provided care and comfort for thousands who have served our country and fellow citizens. Located in the heart of the Lakes Region and the foothills of the magnificent White Mountains, the scenic beauty surrounding the Home combined with the warm fellowship, shared by residents, staff, and volunteers create a unique environment for those who have made personal sacrifices in the military and now need assistance to care for themselves.

RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
  • Must apply nursing process techniques required in the evaluation, care, and implementation of treatment plans for residents, ensuring physical and/or emotional needs are addressed, and facility policies and procedures are followed.
  • Observes, records, and reports signed, symptoms and progress of residents' medical treatment and care plans utilizing the facility's documentation system and makes recommendations concerning changes or modifications of treatment as needed to appropriate medical personnel.
  • Interacts cooperatively with other nursing staff, health care professionals, and medical/therapeutic disciplines within the facility, in order to meet treatment care plans, health needs, and goals of residents; communicates information to the treatment or supervisor as necessary.
  • Performs specialized nursing tasks such as exchange of oxygen tanks, preparation and verification of medicine and pharmacy orders, and observing that medical equipment is appropriately functioning; alerts supervisor or appropriate personnel if equipment needs to be repaired/replaced.
  • Participates in preparing treatment plans and providing therapeutic activity such as daily living activities, personal hygiene, and addressing resident's individual care goals.
  • Monitors the activities of the licensed practical nurses or nursing support staff to ensure equality of services rendered.
  • Provides auxiliary nursing personnel with in-service training in the care of patients and participates in the orientation of new staff.
  • Ensures compliance with established department policies and procedures by maintaining competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: Graduation from a recognized nursing program with either affiliate or postgraduate courses and clinical experience in medical, geriatrics, and psychiatric nursing.
  • License/Certification: Current and full license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.
  • Experience: Recent graduates acceptable. No minimum experience requirement.
