Position Summary

Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center (OPVMC) is seeking a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Oncologist to join our expanding specialty team. This is an exciting opportunity to grow and shape our oncology services within a privately owned, collaborative, 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital located just outside Buffalo, NY. You’ll have the freedom to manage a personalized caseload with the support of experienced colleagues, advanced diagnostics, and a compassionate, skilled nursing staff.

Essential Functions
  • Provide comprehensive oncologic care, including diagnostics, staging, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
  • Perform cytologic evaluations, interpret diagnostic imaging, and develop personalized chemotherapy or rescue protocols.
  • Collaborate with internal medicine, surgery, and emergency teams to provide integrated, multidisciplinary care.
  • Communicate with clients and referring veterinarians in a clear, compassionate, and informative manner.
  • Offer end-of-life counseling and palliative care when appropriate, ensuring a humane and supportive experience.
  • Contribute to the continued development of our oncology service and its protocols.
  • Participate in educational opportunities, case rounds, and ongoing clinical improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate patient records in our EMR system (ezyVet/Smart flow).
Education and Experience
  • DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school (Required).
  • Board-certified in Oncology (ACVIM) or residency-trained with intent to pursue board certification (Required).
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of New York (Required).
  • Experience with diagnostic imaging, cytology, and chemotherapy protocol development.
  • New grads completing oncology residency welcome to apply.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Deep clinical knowledge of oncology and evidence-based treatment protocols.
  • Strong communication skills with an empathetic approach to clients and team members.
  • Passion for multidisciplinary collaboration and long-term case management.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads and provide emotional support during difficult cases.
  • Familiarity with ezyVet, Smart flow, and digital diagnostic tools is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to high-quality, compassionate care.
