We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Director of Marketing to join our dynamic New Ventures team in Carlsbad, CA! This is a hybrid, site-based role that offers the perfect blend of office collaboration and remote flexibility. Employees will work from our Carlsbad office at least 3 days (60%) per week within a standard five-day workweek, with the remaining days worked remotely.

Viasat New Ventures is a newly formed line of business at Viasat, encompassing a portfolio of early-stage and new ventures at different maturity levels. The leadership team within New Ventures will have access to Viasat’s centralized shared resources model (sales, marketing, legal, finance) but needs leaders across the various functions and across business segments to ensure a focus on the priorities of the New Ventures is maintained.

The day-to-day
  • Own and define the marketing strategy, operating model, priorities, and performance outcomes across the New Ventures portfolio, ensuring alignment with business growth objectives and influencing strategic direction across relevant Viasat business segments.
  • Serve as the principal marketing advisor to New Ventures leadership, shaping growth strategies, commercialization plans, investment priorities, and go-to-market decisions across multiple ventures from concept through scale.
  • Establish portfolio-wide marketing frameworks, messaging standards, and go-to-market best practices that drive consistency, scalability, and measurable business impact.
  • Own the identification, evaluation, governance, and deployment of emerging marketing technologies and AI solutions, establishing scalable practices adopted across the New Ventures portfolio.
  • Own the New Ventures marketing investment strategy, budget governance, and business outcomes associated with industry events, executive engagements, thought leadership initiatives, and market-facing programs.
  • Establish and govern the performance measurement framework for New Ventures, defining success metrics, reporting standards, and insights that inform strategic business decisions.
  • Set the digital engagement strategy, operating standards, and performance expectations across web, social, video, and emerging digital channels, ensuring measurable contribution to venture growth objectives.
  • Influence executive stakeholders and business leaders on market opportunities and growth strategies through customer, competitive, and market insights.
  • Establish marketing standards, processes, and governance frameworks that enable consistent execution and scalable growth across the New Ventures portfolio

What you'll need

  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop and implement change management practices.
  • The ability to drive alignment across groups, managing risk and collaborating with other areas to address cross-functional priorities.
  • Being comfortable in ambiguous, early-stage (start-up/scale-up) environments is a must.
  • Both strategic and hands-on execution capability will also be essential, due to the lean nature of the New Ventures business unit.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging modern AI tools and technologies to enhance marketing strategy, content creation, campaign optimization, customer insights, and productivity.
  • Curiosity and passion for emerging technologies, with a track record of staying ahead of industry trends and applying innovative tools to drive growth and competitive advantage.
