Job description

TheStars of Valor Fellowships Program is committed to honoring and acknowledgingthe invaluable service, sacrifice, and resilience provided by wounded or disabled veterans, Active-Duty military spouses, and Gold Star families. It presentsa distinct opportunity for individuals to extend their significantcontributions to America beyond their military tenure. Senate Resolution 442(117th Congress) established the SFC Sean Cooley and SPC Christopher HortonCongressional Gold Star Family Fellowship Program, Senate Resolution 443(117th Congress) established the McCain-Mansfield Fellowship Program, and Senate Resolution 737 (118th Congress) established the Active-Duty Military Spouses Fellowship Program.Collectively, these programs are the Stars of Valor Fellowships Program.
These fellowships are exclusively available to eligible wounded or disabled veterans, Active-Duty military spouses, and GoldStar family members who aspire to serve as paid fellows for a two-year durationwithin the esteemed halls of the United States Senate. Leveraging their uniqueperspectives, selected fellows will have the privilege of supporting Senatorsand their dedicated staff, helping to shape legislative agendas, and addressconstituents' concerns on a national scale. These positions are based inWashington, DC, as well as in Senate Offices across the United States.
The SFC Sean Cooley and SPCChristopher Horton Gold Star Family Fellowship Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must be a family member of
  • A U.S. Armed Forces servicemember who died in the line of duty; or
  • A Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces who died of service-connected injuries.

Qualifications:
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizationskills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to completeprojects within timelines and under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work well underpressure and maintain a professional and courteous work disposition
  • Ability to exercisediscretion and independent judgment in handling sensitive information
  • Ability to manage multipletasks simultaneously
  • Effective verbal andwritten communication skills are necessary

Education Requirements:
High School Diplomarequired. Some college-level classes are preferred but not required.
Gold Star Required Documents:
  • Resume
  • Cover Letter
  • For family members of a servicemember who died on active duty: DD Form 1300 or DD Form 2064 accompanied by a Line of Duty (LOD) Determination or Department of Veterans Affairs Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) Award Letter; OR
  • For family members of a veteran who died of service-connected disability: Last DD Form 214 issued to the veteran and a Department of Veterans Affairs Decision Letter
  • Proof of dependency to the servicemember: DD Form 1172 or equivalent; OR Proof of relationship to the veteran: obituary or birth certificate
