Job description

Holyoke Medical Center is a 219-bed independent community hospital that has served the healthcare needs of the Pioneer Valley for over 125 years. We continue to grow and address the needs of our community through quality and patient-centered care.
Position Summary
Holyoke Medical Center's occupational health department, The Work Connection, helps area employers and Valley Health Systems' own workforce maintain a safe, healthy, and productive workplace through a full range of occupational medicine services. The Occupational Health Services Manager provides day-to-day operational and staff leadership for The Work Connection, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and compliant delivery of injury care, non-injury care, and worksite services across both the Holyoke and East Longmeadow locations. This role partners closely with the Medical Director, providers, and hospital leadership to support area businesses and Holyoke Medical Center employees alike, and works cross-functionally with HR, Safety, and clinical leadership to strengthen the employer-employee-provider relationship that is central to the practice.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily clinical operations of The Work Connection at both the Holyoke and East Longmeadow sites, ensuring smooth patient flow, scheduling, and service delivery for employer clients and Valley Health Systems employees.
  • Manage and support a multidisciplinary team including advanced practice providers (APPs), medical assistants, office/administrative staff, and other Work Connection personnel; oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of core services, including:
    • Injury Care - workplace injury assessment, treatment, and follow-up, and workers' compensation case management.
    • Non-Injury Care - pre-employment physicals, DOT exams, industrial drug and alcohol screening (including random pool management), breath alcohol testing, hearing testing, pulmonary function testing, respirator fitness testing, and vaccine administration.
    • Worksite Services - on-site employer support, ergonomic and fit-for-duty evaluations, and other individualized services tailored to area business needs.
  • Serve as a key liaison between The Work Connection, the Medical Director, referring physicians, employer clients, and Holyoke Medical Center/Valley Health Systems HR to coordinate care, compliance, and return-to-work planning.
  • Support the Medical Director in ensuring the practice's clinical programs comply with governmental and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, ADA, workers' compensation law, HIPAA) for injury care, pre-placement exams, fit testing, and fit-for-duty evaluations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with area employers to grow and retain business, understand each client's individualized occupational health needs, and ensure a positive employer/employee experience.
  • Track and report key operational and quality metrics (visit volumes, turnaround times, employer satisfaction, incident trends) to the Medical Director and hospital leadership.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential occupational health records in the electronic medical record system, in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policy.
  • Manage department budget, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, and vendor relationships (e.g., drug screening labs, third-party administrators, scheduling platforms).
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting (e.g., OSHA 300 logs, DOT/MRO recordkeeping).
  • Promote The Work Connection's services within the greater Holyoke/Pioneer Valley business community, representing the department at community and employer-facing events as needed.

Requirements
Bachelor's Degree; minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory/management experience in healthcare, preferably in occupational health. A broad knowledge of physician practice management and budget management. Proven communication and presentation skills; experience working with third party payers and working knowledge of billing processes.
Benefits

  • dental and vision insurance
  • free disability and life insurance
  • Up to$6000 in tuition/certification reimbursement
  • 403(b) plan
