University Student Union California State University, Northridge Student Assistant Employee Job Description
Under the supervision of the Pride Center Manager, the Student Administrative Support Assistant I is responsible for performing a wide variety of general office and business tasks related to the day-to-day operation of University Student Union (USU) Pride Center department requiring skill, judgement and decision-making.
Job duties include:
- Providing clerical and administrative support to the Pride Center department including but not limited to answering phones, simple to complex typing, heavy filing, photocopying, faxing, scanning documents, dispensing of departmental information and maintaining office systems.
- Conducting departmental research and assessment, and generating reports
- Creating, updating, and archiving office documents, events, and room reservations
- Creating and reconciling budget tracker for each Pride Center event
- Preparing preliminary monthly Executive Director Report submissions
- Maintaining inventory of office and event supplies
- Working with established computer programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook
- Attending weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with Pride Center Manager
- Keeping track of Pride Center internal tasks, projects, and programs
- Assisting in maintaining and archiving all project files in organized and consistent manner
- Managing the Pride Center email account and responding to inquiries as needed
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education:
Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
Experience:
Previous related experience and/or specialized education preferred
Experience volunteering and/or working with LGBTQIA+ students preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to be firm yet kind, using strong interpersonal skills to ensure timely delivery of all projects
Ability to effectively coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines with limited supervision
Proven leadership, organizational, and time management skills
Confident and positive personality with excellent problem-solving skills
Must have knowledge of modern office procedures
Ability to maintain a neat appearance and courteous disposition
Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong initiative
Ability to execute written correspondence, reports and organize data accurately
Ability to make independent decisions and make recommendations
Solid verbal communication skills required, including ability to make public presentations, share relevant information, ask questions, listen well and respond appropriately
Solid written communication skills required, including composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation
Ability to identify problems and/or concerns relative to position of employment, and recommend viable solutions
Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervision
Ability to work in a culturally diverse, ethnically pluralistic environment

Supervision is provided by Pride Center Manager
Typical working conditions include:
Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, in different climactic conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
