This is a referral clerk job that coordinates all outgoing referrals to specialists. We want people who bring strong customer services skills and have a desire to take on the challenges in front of them. Essential Functions:
Coordinates all outgoing referrals for our UMCP Clinics. Coordinates referrals including but not limited to obtaining referral authorization/precertification, scheduling appointments with specialists, accumulating, correlating and faxing all relevant information to specialist and tracking all related correspondence regarding those referrals. Assists with data entry of completed referrals. This needs to be done with a sense of urgency at all times.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to speak with patients, insurance companies and specialist offices to coordinate care for UMCP patients. Extensive knowledge of the local healthcare market including local insurance plans, hospital affiliations and specialists available to treat patients. Ability or experience working with UMCP referral management computer system which involves patient data inquiry and capabilities through various computer functions. Ability to maintain a pleasant, even temperament while working under pressure and with heavy workloads. Ability to stay organized and hit daily referral numbers. Must be able to effectively conduct business in person and over the telephone.
Minimum qualifications:
Experience with managed care referrals
Previous medical office experience, 1+ year
Previous medical insurance experience, 1+ year
Environmental Conditions:
Well lit, heated and ventilated building. Normal office environment. Fast paced, professional environment.
Physical Requirements:
Work is of medium demand; walking and sitting most of the time while on duty. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Visual acuity and writing skills necessary for factual documentation. Hours may vary to accommodate the needs of the corporation.
