 USAging Overview


USAging is the national association representing and supporting the network of Area Agencies on Aging and advocating for the Title VI Native American Aging Programs. Our members help older adults and people with disabilities throughout the United States live with optimal health, well-being, independence and dignity in their homes and communities. 


Our members are the local leaders that develop, coordinate and deliver a wide range of home and community-based services, including information and referral/assistance, case management, home-delivered and congregate meals, in-home services, caregiver supports, transportation, evidence-based health and wellness programs, long-term care ombudsman programs and more.


USAging is dedicated to supporting the success of our members through advancing public policy, sparking innovation, strengthening the capacity of our members, raising their visibility and working to drive excellence in the fields of aging and home and community-based services. 


Job Title: Program Manager, Dementia Friendly America 

Reports to: Director, Dementia Friendly America 


Position Overview


The Program Manager is responsible for supporting the Director in the day-to-day operations of USAging’s Dementia Friendly America (DFA) initiative. DFA is a national effort that supports the development of dementia-friendly community initiatives in counties, cities and towns across the country. Through standardized tools, resources and technical assistance, DFA helps communities better support people living with dementia and their caregivers. Dementia Friendly America also serves as the U.S. lead for administering Dementia Friends, a campaign to raise awareness and reduce stigma of dementia and hosts the Memory Cafe Alliance’s Memory Cafe Directory and resources. 


Duties and Responsibilities


Dementia Friends Program Management:

  • Become a Dementia Friends Champion and conduct Dementia Friends Training Sessions as requested (in-person and virtual)
  • Track the number of Dementia Friends monthly
  • Onboard new Dementia Friends sublicense holders
  • Respond to Dementia Friends inquiries
  • Coordinate Dementia Friends webpage updates with web developer
  • Troubleshoot issues with Dementia Friends online in coordination with web developer.
  • Oversee Dementia Friends Connected Communities platform page
  • Coordinate bi-monthly Dementia Friends Huddles 

Dementia Friendly America (DFA) Communities:

  • Track new communities and contacts
  • Track and coordinate updates to online directory
  • Oversee Dementia Friends Connected Communities platform page

Memory Cafe Alliance (MCA)

  • Serve as DFA liaison to Alliance
  • Schedule and provide technology support for quarterly meetings
  • Update the (MCA) Connected Communities platform page
  • Troubleshoot issues with MCA curriculum and directory webpages in coordination with web developer.

Communications Management:

With support from USAging Communications Staff and DFA Director, take the lead on the development of :

  • Bi-monthly newsletter
  • Monthly email blasts
  • Social media posts
  • LinkedIn posts
  • Marketing flyers
  • Conference presentations/materials
  • Bi-annual thank you letters to DFA network and donors

DFA Network Convenings:

Schedule, draft agendas and co-facilitate:

  • Monthly Office Hours
  • Bi-monthly Community Convener Meetings
  • Bi-monthly Dementia Friends Huddles
  • Quarterly Memory Cafe Alliance Meetings
  • Webinars (as scheduled)

Annual Dementia Friendsgiving Event Management: 

With support from the DFA Director and Communication Team, manage the planning, marketing and conduction of this annual event including assisting with designing, developing and implementing: 

  • Run-of-show
  • Speaker selection/coordination
  • Awards
  • Marketing
  • Sponsor recognition
  • Registration process

Higher Logic (Connected Communities) Collaboration Platform Management:

Manage Dementia Friends, DFA Community Conveners and Memory Cafe Alliance platform pages:

  • Member log-in 
  • Trainings (as needed)
  • Resource Library
  • Administrator messages and updates
  • Responses to messages for DFA staff
  • Troubleshooting issues

Donations:

  • Assist with questions regarding donations
  • Troubleshoot issues with donation page in coordination with web developer
  • Prepare bi-annual thank you and update to donors
  • Track all donors (on and offline)

General:

Utilize project management tools, including Excel, to organize and manage program activities 

  • Attend meetings, webinars and conferences as needed
  • Attend USAging staff meetings (twice monthly)
  • Attend and support DFA and USAging events at the summer USAging Conference (beginning in 2027)
  • Prepare board reports with DFA director
  • Support grant writing as needed 
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) plus at least two years of relevant work experience  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with DFA network members, partners, donors, funders, sponsors and other stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to plan ahead, meet deadlines and balance multiple projects
  • Ability to keep track of details and timelines and effectively communicate the most relevant information to supervisors/colleagues
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Constant Contact or other email platforms, Survey Monkey or other survey platforms, and webinar/communications broadcast platforms is preferred 
  •  Experience with website maintenance platforms is preferred
  •  Experience with training and curriculum development preferred
  •  Experience delivering trainings
  •  Experience utilizing Learning Management Systems a plus
  •  Experience in dementia related work a plus
  •  Quick thinker with demonstrated problem-solving and strong interpersonal skills
  •  An all-hands-on-deck attitude and a willingness to pitch in when needed
  • Passion for USAging’s mission of helping older adults age in place and maintain their health and independence for as long as possible

WORK HOURS AND LOCATION

Candidates outside of the Washington, DC area will be considered. The successful candidate will also be able to occasionally travel to member conferences and always attend the USAging Annual Conference and Tradeshow each summer for up to six days.
