What We Want
Under supervision of the Director of Olympic Performance Nutrition the Nutritionist will support the health, performance, and well-being of student-athletes at Texas A&M University. The Nutritionist will work in compliance with the policies and protocols in place, and will assist in the planning, evaluation, implementation and management of the Performance Nutrition Services provided to Texas A&M student-athletes.

Responsibilities
Team and Athlete Nutrition Support
Provides evidence-based nutrition counseling and education through one-on-one nutrition counseling, team talks, development and distribution of educational materials, and other educational activities to support the health and performance of Texas A&M student-athletes. Practices medical nutrition therapy to manage nutrition-related clinical concerns in an athletic setting in conjunction with sports medicine staff. Maintains knowledge of special diets, allergies, and intolerances and communicates this information with the sports medicine team and student athletes to allow them to meet unique needs to compete at an elite level. Evaluates nutrition-related bloodwork and provides supplementation to correct micronutrient deficiencies. Stays up to date with ongoing nutrition research related to performance nutrition, weight management, and supplementation. Responsible for nutrition, fueling, and recovery needs with assigned sports.Collaborates with operations staff for support of travel nutrition, gameday nutrition, and overall team nutrition needs. This may include travel.
Nutrition Department Operations
Oversees fueling stations for assigned sports and assists in management of Olympic Sports PDC fueling stations, including oversight ofinventory, ordering, and execution. Assists in the hiring, delegation of responsibilities, and scheduling of the student workforce. Directly manages performance nutrition student workers assisting with assigned sports to help execute food service-related tasks and operations for the Performance Nutrition Department. Assists Director of Olympic Performance Nutrition with coordination of Clark Nutrition Center meals and events.
Interdisciplinary Team
Works as an active member of sport performance and wellness teams in collaboration with team physicians, athletic trainers, sport performance coaches, sport science, and sports psychology staff to discuss how individual athlete and team nutrition practices contribute to overall health and performance. Serves as an active member of a high risk committee for high risk student-athlete monitoring.
Assessments
Performs body composition testing via DXA with assigned teams.Communicates athlete data with the student athlete as well as appropriate sport staff in a performance team setting.Performs hydration testing, sweat testing, and other assessments as needed with assigned teams. Collaborates on a performance plan based on assessment results with athletic training, strength and conditioning, and coaching staff in an effort to reduce student athlete injuries or cramping.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of related experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Registered and Licensed Dietician or Nutritionist.(Licensure in the State of Texas obtained within 1 month of hiring).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Registered Dietitian Certification with at least one year experience working in sports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective with time management, task organization, and shows initiative in a fast-paced environment
Works cooperatively with others
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to clearly communicate
Knowledge of sports nutrition counseling
Knowledge of rules and regulations of athletic governing bodies: ex. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) U. S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding banned substances
Knowledge of eating disorders/disordered eating signs and symptoms in athletes
Ability to analyze body composition assessments and make recommendations on energy requirements
